Blutac?

I've got a spare 120mm Tt fan and I want to use it to cool my 8800GT a bit more. However, the only way I can do this is to blutac it directly to the back of the card.

Is this safe to do?

Double-sided tape.

You're going to need to stand it off from the card by say at least 10mm, otherwise the air will not flow through it. Some dowell and hot glue/silicone rubber will do the job.

My own sealing wax and string solution to this, was pretty much sealing wax and string.......well, 3or 4 pieces of think, well insulated wire, hodling the fan in mid-case so the air could get a run up at the card.
Like the dowell standoffs and hot-melt better though.
(better watch out where you put the sticky stuff though, it does melt quite cool)

Nearly all the fans in my case are secured by silicone rubber , it will stick owt to owt or your money back, with the bonus advantage of absorbing vibes. I said hot glue cos that would do the same job, but thinking about it you'd have to be careful with gluing to the back of a graphics cards, cos if you'd have to be careful you don't pull any surface mount resistors off if you need to remove the fan. Silicone rubber would be ok though I would have thought. Usual discalaimers apply btw.
