A friend of mine has a pretty tidy E46 2.0d Touring M Sport and has noticed that the E91 2.0d M Sport is considerably faster so begs the question, what's the difference? I know remapping can impact torque quite effectively but would remapping his E46 take it from the current 150bhp to the early E91's power of 160bhp or even the later E91's of 170bhp? or is there more involved in these new ones that means it's out of reach and he should just save up and buy one?

Thanks.

It's currently at 77k and he's owned it since 16k without fault but it is a bit of a stop/start machine and doesn't really get stretched that often.

Well the e90 320ds are junk
His E46 looks superb, handles great, has strong mid-range acceleration and has been faultless. I doubt the superior E90 would be junk.

to answer your remapping power increase question, the 150bhp 2.0d seems to get +35bhp and +56 lb/ft with a generic remap
That's a substantial amount, jeez. As mentioned, reliability is in question here so is that a large increase in boost?
