A friend of mine has a pretty tidy E46 2.0d Touring M Sport and has noticed that the E91 2.0d M Sport is considerably faster so begs the question, what's the difference? I know remapping can impact torque quite effectively but would remapping his E46 take it from the current 150bhp to the early E91's power of 160bhp or even the later E91's of 170bhp? or is there more involved in these new ones that means it's out of reach and he should just save up and buy one?

Thanks.

Yes, you can remap the 2.0d. Whether its a good idea with the 320d's already questionable reliability record is another matter entirely.

It's currently at 77k and he's owned it since 16k without fault but it is a bit of a stop/start machine and doesn't really get stretched that often.

Well the e90 320ds are junk, so no point in saving up for that car,

Personally I would remap it if not already done, or install a sprintbooster.

jamoor, I've noticed your new hobby appears to be posting crap on the internet. Is there a reason you chose this over say playing golf?

Hardly crap though, I am giving my opinion on what should be done, a remap or sprintbooster, and giving my opinion on a 320d I think your post contains more crap than mine.

Doesn't the newest bmw 320D have the highest combined mpg and performance of its class? You may not like the styling, which I don't either although styling is a subjective matter anyway, but you cannot deny that the engine is really really fantastic and good value for money. I know it's a bit common, probably more common than the new modeo, but it's popular for a reason.

I'd say it was pretty good for the money personally, and i'm a miser, lol. Although you know by now that with all extras added you could buy another car, whether you meant that or not I don't know.

25k for a new 320d SE isn't good for the money by any means, imo.

Give an example of something better for the money or as good for less. Interested.
I can't think of a single RWD car in the this price range, let alone one that has good performance, equipment and quality. Maybe a Lexus IS220d but they really are junk.

You can have everything bar the RWD aspect.

all things considered, including the cost of the car, it's rubbish for the money!

It's the same price as its rivals, offers considerably more performance, falls into very low taxation brackets and delivers excellent fuel economy.

In terms of all round ability it's a pretty excellent car by all accounts.
