Well its that time of year again when i start thinking about replacing the Mondeo. Current suspects are the 330ci and 530 sports. Havent driven either yet, but before i start checking some out is there a list of specific problems with these models i should look out for? Such as issues with the manual/auto boxes etc.

Spotted this 530 on Pistonheads, looks just about perfect :)

Only real issues on the E46 330Ci are:

1. Rear coil springs: These snap regularly, and normally manifest themselves as annoying squeaks.

2. Front wishbone rear bushes: These can be consumed by the car quickly if it's driven hard - mine lasted 6,000 miles! You can often tell they are worn as weird wobbles and vibrations will start when braking, especially upon the initial application of the brakes at high speeds.

Nothing else worth mentioning really :)

Sorry to go off topic but I see a lot of ppl refering to pistonheads whereas it used to be autotrader - is there a reason??

The reason could be that they are 2 different companies? :p

Could just be that they have been refurbed, car looks good though.

Possible but unlikely. Superbling Chrome is usually associated with cheap fake copies.

But yea, car is otherwise lovely but then, of course it is, its a 530i Sport ;)

Sweet, so nothing major. Just general car checks

Interesting about those fake alloys though, hadnt even considered that :)

look real to me, hes detailed the wheels and tyres i reckon its whatever cleaner he used.

255 width tyres on rear, unlikely to be reps at that

Autotrader is full of a load of **** generally and is harder to find a nice example.

Pistonheads however is an enthusiast website and most of the cars are in much better condition, and you can usually find much more of the higher specs on pistonheads.

Everyone knows about autotrader so there is a load of rubbish and dodgy deals on it.
