BMW advise

I am looking at buying a 53 Plate 320D, the only issue with it is that the front screen washers work then dont work, is this a common problem on them? or any idea what it might be? the motor sounds like its working ok but nothing sprays.

thanks (oh and just for those "special people" yes there is water in it and it doesnt stop when its run out !

Most likely a gunked up filter.

Simple fix if it is this (if you can hear the pumps going then it's likely). Take the bottle out, pull the pump out of the bottle, clean the bottle and the filter (plastic slot-in thing), put back together.

Mine did this once.

is this a remove the wheel to access thing? I've seen that posted around the net a bit.

If it's not the filter then it will be the nozzle head being filled with crud in the hole, poke it with a pin or examine with a monocle/magnifying glass

Not at all. Washer bottle is easily accessible by opening the bonnet.
