BMW Coding

It could be possible. I know that the early cars with electric seats had modules in the doors and it was one of those that controlled dipping mirrors. Then in 2005/6 they changed the electrics somewhat and those modules were dumped and replaced by one module called the "body control module". My only experience of it though was when Blood tried coding my car for it and although the coding worked and stuck the mirror never dipped.

Perhaps whatever module you're trying to program isn't getting a signal to tell it the car has been put into reverse?

I suppose it depends on what else this module does when the car is in reverse, but if the answer is 'only dips the mirror' then I expect that's your problem.
If it also activates the reverse lights & pdc for example, perhaps not.

Maybe the signal from the module isn't reaching the mirror?

Updated all the modules bar the iDrive today. That will likely take 2 hours or so, so will need a battery charger to keep the car topped up. Good fun :D. Not expecting anymore functionality but I know the latest iDrive version had some speed tweaks made to it so we'll see :)

Where did you get the latest updates to update with?

I do the software update from BMW every 2 weeks odd but that takes about 2 mins.

What car do you have?

I had SP_Datens_v45. Something like 13Gb (for all models, 6.8Gb of which was for the E60). I can tell you, it takes far longer than a few seconds. You can't mass update all the modules, you have to do each one individually. Of course, if you have a later car, like F10 or so, you can download from the web most stuff such as map updates, etc.

Yeah I am sure it does as the BMW software update just updates the telephony files for increased compatibility.

I didn't realise that these files might not be 'official' in which case probably best not to mention where you got them from lol.
