Does anyone know what this is exactly(the DAB thing)? Seems interesting, but I don't want to pay £300 for it.

It is crap that's what it is, had it on my 335i and also have it on my X6 and unless you are in a good signal area the music just drops out when the signal is lost. FM you do not get that problem. Personally I would not pay the extra for it unless I drove in a strong DAB area.

It's interesting if you listen to a lot of digital radio stations, but not if you're don't have reception.
Which can be patchy when you're on the move..

Wouldn't turn it down for free but I found it so useless on my E61 it wasnt an option I was interested in when looking for a new car. Didn't sound any better than FM and lost the signal so often around here I didn't use it in the end.

DAB is now standard on some BMWs since Jan 2013. Which car are you looking at?

He's obviously not looking at it in a new car if he's been quoted £300. It's standard fit, as you say. £300 is thre price of the dealer retrofit option for existing BMW's.

If its the dealer retrofit offer on at the moment then it is then its a BMW branded Connects2 kit: http://www.connects2.co.uk/c2search.aspx?catID=149

I think you get a slightly unsightly aerial on your windscreen and it is controlled via a wireless remote from what I've read. The best bit I guess is it is installed and backed up with a "warranty" from BMW but you can achieve the same for less from an independent.

Hi I have a spare bmw oem dab module if that's any good to anyone. It needs to be coded to the car, and I can show you how I retrofitted to my e91. This is the proper installation rather than the autodab or celcus retrofit.

I have it on my XF, and I must say when you switch between the that and FM you notice a massive difference. But, I never noticed a problem with FM before in my last car, so its not something you'll miss if you didn't have it in the first place.

Might be an idea to get it anyway. Isn't AM/MW/FM being turned off in the next couple of years??

If you listen to Radio 5 it's great, I've had it for a couple of years and wouldn't go back now. Had very few reception problems with it in the XF

Nope, the analogue radio switch off has been delayed. It is somewhat more difficult than the TV switch over as people have way more radios about the house than TVs plus it works somewhat poorly in cars and can be difficult to retrofit.

I experience few DAB reception problems here in Oxfordshire & that's with an aftermarket Sony in an old Alfa! :D

Hasn't the analogue TV switch-off meant that the signal could be boosted a few Db for DAB?. When I first got DAB it used to cut out going under bridges etc, but it rarely happens now.

I had a Revo DAB a few years ago and that was useless, always cutting out but new one never does, no idea if it's equipment or signal imprevement
