Plus the angle the car is at the boot lid would have hit the lamp post not the bumper.

I can hazard a guess what happened here, the driver did not think before he committed to doing his delivery.
Chances are he is (was?) paid by drop, on the other hand, I doubt he'd have had enough room to have turned around to go back.
Sheffield is a real P.I.T.A. with an HGV especially car transporters, if you look closely, you'll see that they are not like regular artics and handle quite differently.
Alas, its part of the job, you are expected to get the goods delivered regardless of the conditions as I know only too well myself.
At an educated guess, I'd say his T/C was either turned off or faulty from the position he's ended up in.

My dad drives these, Although bigger ones this one(Ie B Doubes). He says cars get scratched all the time time, By either low tree branches or even the chains that hold them on.
They just get sent off to get a bit of cut and polish/respray paid for by the insurance

He delivers every week, and looking at where he started and finished I think he took the corner carefully, and then mavity just took over. It is a steep hill.
Once they recovered it, the cars were unloaded without incident.
He still should have considered what would happen prior to doing the delivery, on the other hand, I'd guess some bod in an office had told him that he had to do the drop / delivery no matter what , never mind what the driver probably tried to tell him would happen.....
I hope the driver gave said bod a dose of "told you so" when he got back!
