:( does anyone have a fuse map for the bmw e39, i think i have blown the front speaker fuses, where would they be located? thanks.

manual no use - should be written on the box but the paper in mine isnt there

Car speakers are not fused. The audio ampllfier is though, but then that would mean all the speakers from that amp would not be working.

Have you checked the fader control on the radio first?

Yeah, the front speakers and tweeters are definitely not working, not even sure if my car has an amp! there are some fuses in the wiring harness of the car but they all look fine, would a car fuse be physically blown to not function properly? thanks.

You car does have an amp otherwise you wouldn't hear anything. The amp may be located within the head unit, but you still have an amp. Which will be fused, even inside or on he back of the HU.

Yeah i dont have a seperate amp was what i was getting at, the original HU isn't in there anymore!

Got an update, took some bits out of the dash to have a look round, found a 6 pin power plug (female) just laying about and a 3.5mm jack?! on a fairly long cable, any idea what this is? almost like an aux in but my guess is ive pulled it out of something that feeds the speakers!

Gawd, so it would appear the plot thickens. When was the last time (if ever) that you had sound out of the speakers?

Some photos would go a long way to see what we're dealing with.

3.5mm jack = multifunction steering wheel connector.

Not sure if anyone is interested in this but since ive sorted the problem i thought it only right to update the thread!

Took the car over to a friends last night and between us established that the car had some fiddly aftermarket relay coming off the bmw wiring harness. I'd overlooked this in the first place as i assumed the car hadn't been fiddled with.

Anyway, the front speaker wires were taken from the cars wiring loom, went into this relay, which was also drawing power from the battery - and included the 3.5mm jack which i mentioned earlier, this however wasn't the multifunction steering wheel connector. It ran from the the relay which lead us to believe it was the ground for a handsfree kit that was once present and i must have pulled it out when removing the original unit.

Couple of minutes and a few twists later, the front has sound :) stock speakers leave a little to be desired but are more than adequate for anything below ASBO volume. (maybe that will change come payday :D)

Edit: Shout out to Chris1712 for helping out! :D
