BMW Key programming device

yeah if you have 10k to spare on buying the unit :p

the e46 programmer is a lot cheaper but you have to virtually solder the connector into the DME so it's not very stealth :D

any dbus access requires the ignition to be in position two (or key in the slot for newer cars)

I really cannot see anything to worry about but maybe I'm missing something

all that does is program a key, you need the transponder chip and a key cut for the ignition to steal. all that box does is code the key for remote un/lock

What about if you have comfort access... then no key in ignition required.

you still need the key on your person. if you didt the doors wont open and the starter button wont fire. a car would not get insured if that was the case

Yea because getting in is hard. Got a brick?

Yes but what kind of thief (other than a dumb one) is going to clamber around a car with its alarms going off? He won't be able to open the doors because the doors will not open from the inside if the fob has been used to lock it remotely. The buttons won't do anything inside the cabin, he can't open the boot as it's isolated, nothing.

The only way the doors will open is if a paired fob is used to unlock it or if the doors are forced open.

So he'll be sitting there with the alarm going off while he's trying to find the BUS port under the dash.

Somehow I think this is a complete non issue :p

not in the BMW the key he had there was the ignition key in its entirety, what he did was program a key to be able to start the car.

it's next to useless without the software though, infact it is useless without the software :p

there are very definitely cheaper key coding machines I've debated buying one a number of times (about £400 for the one everyone raves about), my main motivator is the fact stealers charge £100 for a new key but the amount of work you have to do to connect to the DME just carries too many risks.

didt watch the whole thing. surly you need to prove your bona fide auto trade if buying in uk, sealy ask for proof for their slim jims
