BMW M3 - E36 Question....

And that is the difference. Cars like the Aston can do it from 1000rpm with ease, most cars need heaps of clutch and as you said its pointless.

Not pointless when your car is stuck in fourth gear and you got to get home! (In rush hour traffic). Surprisingly clutch held out rather well.

Jamous - What are the running costs like?

i.e. - Parts, Servicing and tyres etc..?

Depends on if you do your oqn servicing or dealer.
I get mine sirvice to keep up the satmp in the book, but in between I do all my own work.
To run them properly, you need proper oil and 6 litres of fully synth isn't cheap, but a proper BMW filter is around a fiver so isn't too bad.
Parts are surprising, most of them are pretty cheap nowadays.
Tyres are fine, most cars now come on 17's so they are getting cheaper, expect to pay up to £100 for decent tyres and maybe £60 ish for cheapo's, put them on the rear and roundabouts are your friends!
It's better on fuel than my last car, Mondeo ST200, maybe the 6th gear gives better consumption, but average is around 28mpg, high 30's on a run.
Yes, some Evo's have Vanos problems, but it is over-exaggerated, even if noisey the unit very rarely fail.
