BMW servicing

Yeah, you help somebody out quickly and it came back to bite them on the backside - I'll bet.

They might have a set price/procedure for a fault light reset - the kit to do the job ain't cheap.

My dealer, BMW Fairfield's, are pretty good on price. My oil service cost £84 when I supplied my own oil, with Mobil 1 costing £47 and giving me well over a litre spare, leaving me with a bill similar to Fox. Got an 07 MINI Cooper for a day and a half too.

Personally, I'll probably never use BM Bitz unless it's at a last resort. The other week I needed the simplest thing done - a clear of fault codes. Despite me explaining multiple times that I just needed a clear, that I was willing to pay for, they were insistent it had to be booked in for a checkover as the warning lights "were serious". I ended up driving to BMW Fairfield who cleared the lights for free, assuring me that as the faults were not currently present, it wasn't serious at all. I thought indys were meant to be helpful!
why not just buy a kit and DIY?

I phoned BMW Sytner (london) asking about servicing costs for a 330ci 52 plate, and this is what they sent me:

"As discussed the prices as of 09/05/2007 for the services are as follows:

Oil service £185
Inspection 1 £265
Inspection 2 £385"

That includes VAT, its the pricing including the over 4 years old discount.

Hope that helps

And given the prices Meds quotes are for Sytner City, who are London based, its pretty much a worst case scenario as well.

Why go Indy for the sake of £30-50 saving every 18 months?

£70-80 off ebay,
that'll get you 2 checks at an indy, they usually charge £35 a go.
Or continue to take it to my BMW dealer who have proven they will do it at 1 hours notice for £0.00 :p

I'm also not sure if the generic universal £80 code reader off the Bay would be any good, either. The RAC couldn't do anything with the faults with their equipment.

That's not bad........for London, too!

Carsoft isn't generic, it's designed specifically for BMWs.
Also gives live data and basic coding functions.

I'm half-tempted by Carsoft purely because I'm a geek. It makes no financial sense (I suppose the petrol to get to the dealer and back costs £6 :p ) but silly little things appeal to me.

Do you have Carsoft? If so, can you confirm one thing to me (Before the topic goes completely off track!) if it has the ability to enable automatic "driveaway" central locking?

I'd like to get hold of GT1, but that's uber £ :(

Yes.
I think it makes perfect financial sense, if you ever have a problem, you can diagnose it yourself.
When you finish, you can sell it back on ebay for at least 1/2 of what you paid.

hey, thanks for all the replys and sorry for this late reply, its an E46 318i SE 52 plate, im very good at the DIY route except i would like to keep the cars History with BMW stamps on it, the cars covered 63,000 miles and from looking at the history booklet it will need an inspection 2. Im very young so do you think il manage to get a courtesy car? and what should i do about filling the oil myself and airfilter - anyone know the best oil is to get ?

Thanks

How old are you? I have not had a problem getting courtesy cars from BMW - had a 2006 530d Sport Auto @ 21 from them, as well as a 320Ci Coupe.

will almost certainly be 21 for courtesy car although when I was 18 and the parents fiesta went to ford they allowed me to drive the courtesy Ford KA!! WOW!!!! ;) I should probably add that the reason it was at Ford in the first place was because I had driven it thru a flood..... :o
