BMW vs Mondeo Ghia X

Am I right in recalling something about towing a BMW and warping the front wishbones?

Severely model dependant, although yes, good point. DO NOT use a rope under any circumstances, they must be towed with a straight bar, although tbh, this is (law?) now anyway....

I think thats with the 5 and 7 series - if they break down, make sure that the recovery bloke doesn't hook onto the front wishbones, as they have little strength.

OK, this must be dealer dependant although I find this odd

330d Oil Change at my dealer is £60...bearing in mind how much oil that lump takes (circa 6.5l I think) thats good.

Insp 1 = £220
Insp 2 = £300

This is on a 2001 E46 330d

No way, Oil Service on the 530d was £180..

The E39 was the first production saloon to use aluminium wishbones for better handling, etc.

This is why you shouldn't tow it/jack it using the wishbones.

the oil must cost £40? no BMW dealer would even let a mechanic put a glove on for £20 :D

how can towing a car with a rope using a toe hook warp the wishbones? and a straight bar not??

I don't think it will.

Its not what you tow it with, its how you tow it. ;)

No, its to do with the constant slack take up of the rope at junctions, etc which is elliminated with a straight bar...

Fox, BMW filled my 330d up with oil and changed air filter and oil filter for £68

INSP 1 cost me £220....you got horrifically ripped, or I've got the most honest BMW dealer in the country (which I know is not true!)

Hi mate, where abouts are you getting your services done? I'm due for a Inspection 2 - what sort of price do you reckon I should be aiming for?

which does what exactly? the constant slack and tightening up will do no more than average braking and acceleration, so to be honest its a load of rubbish, unless of course your car spends more time being towed than driven

The initial 'Jerk' on the rope on the offside front wheel was recorded as one of the highest stress points (inducing fractures) on the offside wish bone (or whatever wheel your toe eye is nearest) according to the AA (in 2001/2)....., this 'Jerk' is more apparent with a rope than a straight bar....

Nick, Woods of Bournemouth, I also havent forgotton your CDs, get them off to you this week.. INSP 2 was quoted to me from these guys at £280 (unless anything else needed doing / came to their attention)

Fox, MY01 330d
