Drove one of these today, the family business just bought a 335i coupe thing, as we were spending a bit of money with them my brother thought he would ask if we could have a go in the Z4M. So today went and gave them the deposit and had the test drive.

Its a rather rapid car, and feels lovely to drive. Straight line speed is fairly insane, defo one of the fastest cars I have driven. The cockpit is kinda like any of the little sports cars are to me, feels very cramped as you get in, but it actually quite nice once in, I like the feeling of being "part of the car".

Not much more I can say from a 10min test drive, we did go down a junction of motorway, so I had a chance to floor it, and it does shift. Had a nice incident on the way back when a lorry started blowing around, the rear wheels on the trailer actually left the ground. Lorry was in the slow lane, I was in the fast, about 5 car lenths behind. The girl from the dealership screamed and curled up in her seat, but calmed down straight away, I had to ask her to turn the hazards on and we slowed down until it righted itself. :)

Thats all, just thought I would share.

HI there

These are stunning looking cars!

Question is will they get the widow-maker status that the older Z3M cars got when those first came out?

Does the Z4M have DSC, Traction control systems or is it like the early Z3M cars that had no driver aids?

tbh I hadn't looked into the spec, my brother called me last night to say we were driving it today, so didnt have a chance to read up. But given I drove it in the rain and floored it through the lower gears a few times and gave it a bit of stick around a couple roundabouts (not too much thou to be fair) it never lost traction bar the tiny bit before it locks up between 1st and 2nd and 2nd and 3rd. In no way like those mad mad cars a few years ago! I would defo say it was driver aided up to the max, like most cars nowadays, people seem to think thats a bad thing, I really dont.

edited to say, I agree its a damn good looking car, and thats from a non BMW fan. I know they are good cars, but never get me on looks. Although they had a 5 series coupe in there which was nice, and the 335i is nice too. I am sure I will enjoy using it thou lol.

Also they had a Z8 in the showroom and some weird thing with no doors in flip paint, looked like a James Bond car lol.

Hi there,

All modern BMWs have driving aids, the Z3M had DSC too. They can all be turned fully off.

there we go, i thought from driving it that it was aided up :)

The DSC light will blink up if it's helping you out. If it was wet, it may have kicked in when the car was scrabbling for traction.

I find DSC and ABS on my 330d very unobtrusive - even on a recent soaking wet trackday at Oulton Park.

didnt notice any lights when cornering tbh, but didnt that hard. When I was flooring it I would have thought it helped, but wasnt looking for the lights.

I have driven one of these around a month ago.

A friend of mine currently has a Z3M however there is £3000 worth of repairs to the car - nothing cosmetic he just drives the car like a nutcase.. putting people's life in danger... jumps red lights.. hmm 4-5 times a day. Very scary being in the car with him.. Anyway!

Whilst in for repairs the salesman was trying to offer a price for trade in and to look at the Z4.

Well I have driven the Z3M and the Z4M.. The difference is very different. Its not the same animal at all. Z4M has very smooth power delivery compared to the Z3M.

If your a nutcase or you like driving for a thrill now and then and like a rough ride. Z3M

Z4M isn't the animal that the Z3M is. So if you want the performance now and then and have a smooth drive. Z4M - Which i would think most peoples choice would be.

This is all based on my experience driving both. Views may differ

Boy..!! was it moving. Very fast car.

I've read this post both forwards and backwards, yet it still made very little sense.....

Z4m looks horrid imho, however the Z3m was a work of art.

TVR's might be quick and make a nice noise.... However they are no where near as well engineered as a BMW :)

...and they also don't have the same class as a BMW - IMO
