Driving to work this morning, minding my own business on the M27 I saw an odd-looking BMW Z3.

A bit of goggling and it turns out it wasn't a Z3 at all, but a Z8.

I'd never seen one before but it was absolutely stunning:

Starting price was $128,000 new according to Wiki.

I'm obviously late to the party as they stopped making them in 2003 but what's the general verdict? Have they aged well or looking back, were they a bit of a mistake?

(Obviously not planning on buying one but thought it looked amazing).

I have a bit of a soft spot for these, would have loved one, but they've held their values really well (e.g., still similar to what you have as the new price!). Uses the engine from the e39 M5.

It was always seen as a bit soft and not particularly 'great handling' by the press when it launched.

Which makes it all the more amusing to see just how much they are now

I love the rear of these. The front is very generic Z1/Z3 looking but overall it has some great touches of retro to it, especially the interior.

/ tries to make joke about them looking good once sawn in half, but cant think of anything funny

Saw one outside a client of mine about 3-4 months ago. They look very dated but are worth a fortune. They were in James Bond The World Is Not Enough and Rio Ferdinand had one, that's all I remember :)

A customer of mine has (maybe had, haven't seen her for yonks) one of these, and I've driven it.

Was quite surprised to find it quite wallowy, and all round a bit 'soft'. Thundering noise though  To be fair she was in the car so hardly hammered it, but it wasn't what I expected.

Also, felt a lot bigger than it looks.

Personally I can't see the value in it, it just seems bizarrely compromised.

I'm In Germany atm At TechnoClassica, I've seen 4 for sale all over 120k euros, most expensive is 160k! Damn Nice cars though.
