BMX

not into it as much as i was (my stupidly pricey bike is just sitting about doing nothing :( but still follow it a bit with the hope of riding again one day!

thesedays 300quid gets you a full bike with everything you need. its absolutley amazing what a little bit of competition between the companys did in just a few years!

i can safely say that for that price and pretty much any other price then you can just pick one you like the colour scheme or name off ! theyre all so competitive with pricing that there is very very little in it between the brands

as for shops well i can recommend alansbmx as not only the best bmx shop but possibly the best shop ive ever had the pleasure of dealing with. they have some great offers on the completes at the moment

Looks so basic for 400 quid http://www.alansbmx.com/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=7138

is it super lightweight or something?

I want a new bmx now:o I had a diamondback about 7-8 years ago, are they naff? was mega light compared to my mates:p

its got a horribly low and gay top tube , because its shorter that saves a little bit o weight. the thing thats a bit crap with bmx at the moment is how much people seem to care about weight. companies are sacraficing a lot of strength for just a litte decrease in weight. the kids should just get a bit stronger.

i think you should get an FBM though scuzi.. not only do the completes look great value but theyre ran (or atleast where about 10years ago) by a total nutcase and the name stood for fire beer mayhem :p sounds right up your street.

or of course my all time hero the legendary mat hoffman sells great completes too
Video had swearing

yup so true about the weight :/ people dont like my bike cos it 14kg+ but i dont see problem with that for all the others it feels heavy as their bikes are like 11kg :/ i've seen peoples paying 20squid more for stem only because it's 20g lighter :o weight is probably a problem for 11year old.. just make sure you get the right TopTube lenght if it's to short you'll be hiting you knees into handlebars.. :) 21" would be the best i have 20.5" but im only 5.8ft so look for something like 21"+

If it was me (and when I get the spare cash) I'd buy an Identiti Dr Jekyll, in pink, with 24" Halo Combat rims in white, with a nice set of hope discs and a pair of Dirt Jumpers on the front.

I can only dream. :(

only bad point i see is Frame: 20.25" Hi-Ten w/ integrated seat clamp

id be expecting a full chromoly frame for in the 300 range to be fair

having looked at a few tonight this one is pretty ideal !

damn light for an off the shelf complete too

ah i see your edit now. that still going to be great really. as said before there not much in it all at all because of companys been so competitive with the completes. theres nothing there that i can see that will need changing. maybe the grips if you dont like the feel of them or something. cant go wrong really

ha my mate bought a cheap eastern complete many years ago only to find it had an 18" top tube ! no one else could ride it without a knee bashing but somehow he was fully used to it :/ it span real easy though !

i got a 21" at the moment but prefer 20.25/50

After speaking to an old mate who knows a thing or two about this, I ordered the following on his advice...

http://www.winstanleysbmx.com/product/18652/Verde_Vex_Bike_2009

I have no idea what half of the spec means but I'm told for the price it is one of the better bikes available.:p

So, will anythign on that need modified at all?

that's well overpriced for what it is  frame and forks are hi ten steel which is not strong enough if you ride hard.. you can easily brake your forks.. trust me i've done it :( the one andy linked is way better for the price :) you should have got that one.. :p

I used to ride S+M's. Iirc the last one I bult was a sabbath with ditch forks, snafu headset, cut down slam bars, alex rims and occasionally white mags that used to flex :D. Flatland is definitely where it's at imo, and get yourself a smaller sprocket for more torKs, 28/30 tooth or somewhere around there. No 'top end' but great for low speed tricks etc.
Oooh if you can find one an S+M Standard Shaman frame. Same frame dimensions, lighter. I'm a bit of an S+M fanboy.

"andy", that Kink looks awesome. I wish I had £320 to spend on a BMX. Miss having mine so much.

Is anyone into this? As part of my mid-mid life crisis I have taken a notion to get one of these again. I used to have one about 10-15 years ago and absolutely loved it.

I haven't a clue what to look for in bikes though. I have about £350-ish to spend but could stretch a bit for something better if it's worthwhile. Main use will be on the street/park with no plans to take it offroad at all. Some names that ring bells are 'We the people', GT and Haro. Are these still big players?

Ta.

you are only in your twenties arent you?

Get over to RADBMX

Skyways very own Billy Stupple is one of the admins over there.

Old school, mid school and new school is catered for and they are a cracking bunch of blokes with a cracking members market.

Here's one i made earlier

Only problem the hubs are unsealed. But I am sure you will be alright on it. I managed to blow all the bearings on my unsealed cassete. Good luck with it let us know how you get on!

Good old BMX :D
I bought a Fitbike Replica a couple of years ago for £180 at some rider owned shop in Aberdeen. Compared to the rest of the Fitbike range it's pretty cruddy and if I tried anything crazed on it, I'm sure it would crumple/kill me.
Still, love it, is great for getting through town quick.

youl never find S+Ms that old no more

i got an S+M black bike which imo is the best they ever made, before they started making stupidly light flexy things

theres newer versions of the S+M dirtbike and stuff like. dirtbike classic i think. youd probably be shocked and appauled at what gearing kids thesedays use too. 23-8 25-9 etc. the days of 44t that would rip open your leg at will is no more :(
