Board games

+1 for Risk. On World domination mode, it will last for days.

It's like Civilisation, but with everything apart from combat mode stripped away.

Atmosphere!

Might need to find a vcr though ;)

Epic! I am the GATEKEEPER! Used to scare the bejeezes out of me.

On Topic:

Not sure what sort of games you're into, but for drunken fun, Cranium! is a good bet.

For something more studious check out Fantasy Flight Games who produce the fore mentioned Chaos in the old world.

Alternatively, dig around until you find HeroQuest... :D

Dominion is brilliant, currently my favourite board game (though it's a cardgame techically). If you want to play with six, ideally you'll need the Intruige expansion as well as the base game. Both of these sets are £25-30 each. That said, at a push you can manage with just the base set.

I'm amazed that Settlers of Catan hasn't been mentioned yet. Also have a look at Carcassonne, both are excellent family strategy games that needn't take up a week of your life.

I also highly rate Smallworld, which is based on the (slightly more advanced) Vinci.

Stay away from Milton Bradley and Waddingtons IMO ;)

Great game - lots of fun.

Also, Blokus is a brilliant boardgame; 4 players each start with 21 tetris-esque pieces (different permutations of 1-5 blocks making up shapes), and take turns to lay them down on a large grid adding each at the corner so no sides touch, with each player taking it in turns to go. The game keeps going until you cannot put any more of your blocks down, and when no-one can go the player with the least number of blocks not played wins. Very tactical game for 2-4 players. Highly recommended!

You can also play online.
