Boaty McBoatface

Where did this xxxxx mc xxxxxx thing source from? Hearing it everywhere

A month or so ago one team in work could think of a new team name as servers and infra were joining, they were thinking of the name infra mc serverface :D where did it start?

Boaty mcboatface is a good one though :)

Naming it after one of our still-alive national treasures is a pretty sensible move. You can't diss David Attenborough without look like a complete thing that rhymes with anchor.

I'm actually quite surprised they did name it after someone still alive. He was in the top 5 votes so it's not like the naming commission just disregarded everything. The best name of the 5 I think.

I think not naming it Wolsley was a good call, he's only just died and would have been so named because he was in the paper a few months before.

Mcboatface is definitely going to be its unofficial name however. I'm betting thats what all the crew, researchers and many newspaper article headlines will call if not a long time to come...:p
