A little overrated?

I absolutely love the songs

Like a rolling stones
The times they are a changing
Girl from the north country
Mr Tambourine man

But I just find the majority of his other stuff absolutely *****.

Saw him live about 25 years ago and he could barely get a note out into the mic. One of the worst performances I’ve ever seen in my life. I thought he was at his end back then but I’ve just looked and he’s apparently still touring. Lol.

Definitely not overrated! I will admit my bias, as I own nearly every album of his, but you have to remember the times were different when he became famous.

He's not some mythical deity, like some people make him out to be, and he freely admits that, but he didn't win a Nobel prize for nothing. The man is an absolute legend and has written some of the most influential music of the last 60+ years.

I've can confirm that his live shows are awful. I saw him back in 2000 and it was really disappointing - his voice is completely shot and he looked so frail.

seen him live a few times, and yes he not the greatest live performance, but then you going for the songs, not the show. However one of the best concerts i have been at was Belfast 98, he was on fire that night

My mum was a big fan and I considered it child abuse being forced to listen to it when I was a nipper.

But he was only her second favourite... to Leonard Cohen. :(

I loved his stuff from the 60's, but no way I would bother going to see him live. He sounds awful now, and has done for a couple of decades.

He did release one of the best modern xmas songs, IMHO...

although I'd still rate The Darkness above it...

Time for a mince pie :)

Leonard Cohen is awesome!

I don't mind Dylan, there are some amazing tracks, but I haven't listened to a lot of his catalogue.

Good songwriter, average musician, horrendous singer

That's fair, though I wouldn't say horrendous singer maybe more of an acquired taste one :p

There’s some absolute gems in his early work, and I quite like him in The Traveling Wilburys. He has just about the worst voice in music, though. Just staggeringly bad.

One of my colleagues saw him live like 5-10 years ago and said that most of the time he had no idea what song he was even playing.
