Bodybuilder vs Sprinter

why is it that inconceivable?

look at the build of him, there is nothing to suggest that he couldnt be a really quick guy over 100 metres, bear in mind that Bodybuilding and weightlifting is perfect for this sort of distance, given that the body works anaerobically for the first 8-10 seconds he is the perfect physique really for short sharp bursts of sprinting.

You look at all the real world class sprinters and their muscle definition, the only real difference between the sprinters and the bodybuilders is that the sprinter will not want to put too much muscle on, look at John Regis for example, the size of that guy for a sprinter is on the large size and yet he has been one of the best 200 metre runners we have had ;)

The only thing i can see making a difference here is the weight factor :)

Probably blowing hot air to issue a challenge like that but then again look at the likes of the "Fridge" weighing in at something like 25st he was able to shift at a fair rate as can Jona Lomu too

will be interesting to see just how far behind Chambers he is at the finish though ;)

Weightlifters yes.... bodybuilders less so.

Weightlifters train for explosive movement. Think it was at the LA olympics they did some basic test like starting speed (think it was 10 yds) and vertical leap etc. The weightlifters beat the spinters on the start and the high jumpers on the vertical leap.

that is a general feeling m8, but you are now going into the realms of telling me that only a weight lifter trains at them sort of high impact exercises, for all you know the guy could be spending a good proportion of his time actually doing explosive exercise routines.

I have trained with the weights for years and used to knock out a sub 11 second 100 metres and none of my exercise routines were explosive at all, they were specifically for endurance being a soldier, there is nothing medically or otherwise to suggest that he isnt capable of running that 100 metres as fast as the sprinter ;)

They should tie a 100kg weight behind them both and see who wins :) One thing with big bodybuilders though, perhaps the size of their thighs might restrict their leg movement somewhat.

Not quite sure why it all came from Levrone claiming to be the fastest man on the planet

Didn't read the article on the link, too little time and too many things to do as always :)

Well, he must know he's fast to make a claim like that. Good luck to him.
