I start my new job tomorrow which is office based.. and previously I have been eating every 3 hours however now I guess I will only be able to eat breakfast at 7am and then nothing again until 1pm (6 hour gap) and then nothing again until 5pm.

I was just wondering, does anyone else have this problem and if you do how do you get around it? It's going to be hard trying to get 6 small meals in a day this way.

Can you not pack like little breakfast bars or snacks under your office desk? I never eat that much anyway so for me something like this has never been a problem :P

Maybe so, but I don't want to start being cheeky, especially on my first day :p

I've never had a job where I wasn't allowed food...you can't leave your desk to cook etc, obvioulsy, but you ought to get some time for lunc, and if you mucnh on a cereal bar or some fruit or tuna etc at your desk nobody should say anything.

/agreed. I like your sig btw Manic :)

I've worked in offices where food at your desk wasn't allowed. I still did it anyway as I was temp staff and didn't really care.

One of the things I asked when accepting my current job was if I'd be allowed to eat at my desk!

They're not fussed and as such I graze pritty much every hour or so. As long as my works done and what I'm eating doesn't stick the place out t's all good.

If your office manage was going to be a **** then personally I'd just take something into the toilet with me and eat it in there! If he asks why you're taking so long just tell him you have IBS.

the easy way would be to buy protein bars and eat them at your desk, everybody usually eats chocolate at their desks anyway so this would be no different, although that will be expensive.

the alternative is you make your own protein bars, this is obviously time consuming, but if you nail the recipe down with practice it will be a lot better overall and you will actually enjoy eating them.

don't you get a morning break? even if you can't eat at work it won't be the end of the world if you just have to change your meal plan from 6 meals to 5 or 4. Just keep your protein intake up and adjust portion size accordingly.

the amount of times i've been told off for eating at work.lol.:p as it it's you first day i would ask if was a problem to eat at your desk, if not then happy days. if it is then have a protein drink instead with some oats in to tide you over to break.

Another thought would be (depending on what the smoking policy at work is) to argue that other employee's are allowed to take cigarette breaks where they actually stop working to do so where as you would still be getting work done.

I think it's a very childish thing to stop your employees eating at their desk. They're grown adults let them eat at their desk if they want as long as they don't take the **** there shouldn't be a problem.

i think its to deter the abusers of the system. when i was working in a big office. the polish guy would go to the gym for lunch, our allotted time was 30 minutes, but it was a relaxed place so everybody usually took 45 minutes to an hour. so after he spent an hour in the gym he would then go to the cafe and take his lunch to his desk.

this then meant he would be away for an hour lunch (alloted time of 30 mins) then have his lunch at his desk, 1 of the guys had a word with him about the mess he made at his desk, so he got himself a bin (you werent allowed one, due to recycling policies) and a small brush/shovel. everything was fine until one of the nosy busy bodies caught on to what he was doing and then stuck their nose in to say "if your going to do that then your only allowed a 5 minute coffee break", the rest of us usually took 15-30 minutes.

these rules are there because somebody usually takes the wee, and is to deter that from happening. so long as you dont go overboard, you should be fine. it also depends on the rest of your team and if they take offense to what your doing because they dont get to do it.

Shakes are where this is beaten (if not allowed to eat at desk). They cannot stop you having a drink :)

I'd choose a shake over a protein bar - keep away from protein bars, waste of money and full of sugar.

You can make a fairly nutritious shake if you add decent ingredients - as Morba said, if all else fails a shake is an alternative. However, I'd fight for your right to eat.

You do not need to eat every 3 hours.

I used to do that and it's such a waste of time.

As long as you eat more frequently than every 48 hours, with most of the food post-workout, that's all you need to worry about. Muscle breakdown and other adaptations don't even kick in until about the 72 hour mark.

I now eat all my food in the evening and it's one of the best things I've ever done. I enjoy food so much more, I'm fired up all day and don't need to worry about carrying protein snacks with me.

It takes about two weeks or so to adapt, but after that it's great.

Been eating this way for about 6 months - never going back.

www.LeanGains.com was my inspiration.

Good for you, but such a diet appeals to some people only.
I'm not going to preach about catabolism and the like I'll just give my personal example.

As a 16 stone 6ft 2f fairly active person on a lean bulk I need around 3500-4000 calories a day. If you think it is possible and ok to eat that in one go every day, then you are very wrong.

This fasting might work for someone looking to lose weight who does not care about loosing a bit of muscle as well. If you're a 10 stone chap that wants to lose the flab around his waist I suppose it's possible to eat your 1500 calories in one meal, although not advisable imho. But for the heavier individuals or just someone who wants to gain muscle I'm sorry but such a diet is absolute crap.

There is an optimum amount of protein which the body can synthesize, I am pretty confident when saying that my body won't do a perfect job with 200grams in one go.
