Hi,

I have a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 40CDI conventional and the unit has a few issues. A previous boiler fire means the plastic under the heat exchanger is deformed so it leaks a little the unit is also a tad noisy. The wife thinks it is nearing 10 years old.

So I was thinking of replacing it with a similar spec unit, but I have no ideal what the best boilers are.

Can anyone suggest a replacement unit, that will be the best available product?

It seems that the WB lifestyle 8000 40kw would be the natural successor, but are Worcester Bosch actually any good?

I always thought they were considered one of the better ones. We have a WB Greenstar 28Jr and by and large its been fine.

Worcester boilers have a good reputation and are very efficient. As an alternative you could look at Vaillant boilers (EcoTec range), they have just as good a reputation and are just as efficient. My 25 year old Baxi died a few years ago and we had ours swapped out for the Vaillant and I've been really happy with it.

Thank for the info chaps. Sounds like I will stick with WB, especially as it is likely to be easier for the person fitting it to replace a WB with a WB (perhaps an unjustified assumption). Just thinking ahead incase I can get boiler replacement under the Green Homes Scheme, as mine will start costing money in a few years....

We brought our house 12 years ago, it had a Ferolli boiler. It went wrong three times in the first 18 months, several plumbers refused to even look at it the first time it went wrong so I used the Ferolli website to source registered ones. There were three, the cheapest was £70 call out, he never could fix it first time, it always needed a part to be ordered so call out charges alone we’re £140 so £420 in 18 months.

On the last time it went, I called into a local merchants to order the part myself. The guy behind the counter told me to cut my losses, get a Vaillant or Worcester he said they’re so easily the best two out there and as for which one is better it is fine lines, plumbers are split on the decision. He said every plumber carries parts and if they have run out every merchant will carry them and that’s if they do go wrong.

We went Vaillant and have never looked back. We pay £65 a year for a service through a plumber we found, he tells us in advance if any part is looking near to needing replacing and I’d say we’ve replaced three items on it in 10 years. Most costly was £30 the other two under £15 and he charged us an extra £10 to fit them.

I hate doing posts like this, you just know I’m going to have an issue with my boiler after praising it so much
