Hi guys my boiler is acting strangely. I've attached some pics, but basically the hot water will come on with no issues (so the boiler does work), but the only way i can get the heating on is to put the hot water on (i think the 3 way valve maybe knackered, or somebody has wired it wrong. We've lived in the house for 9 years, and i've not had this problem before, any ideas? Please ignore the streaks on the boiler, i guess its from condensation.

Cheers guys.

Diverter valve, it will most likely be in the airing cupboard. Put up a few pictures of the pipework around the hot water tank.

thinking it could be the valve itself - or the actual electrical component that's failed.

if it is the valve then you'll need to drain the system and change it. if its just the electrical component on top I dont think the system needs to be drained.

this thing here...

remember someone telling me about that in one of my thread..probably u lol

If you can manually turning the CH on using the lever of the top or bottom of the valve casing, it’s the little stepper motor inside that’s failed.

Those are a lot less hassle to replace if you’re mechanically minded and can cut and crimp electrical connections. Make sure you’ve turned off the heating system power before opening the valve body as they operate on 240V.

I have changed the electrical part of the diverter before, i didn't change the whole lot at the time due to not wanting to drain the system. The thing is, that the boiler doesn't even kick in when the thermostat is telling it too, only when i press the H/W button (which i assume has nothing to do with the thermostat). When i change the temp on the 'stat, it does click when it goes past ambient. I don't think its the divertor that giving me a problem, when i changed it i was getting a mix of H/W and C/H when only 1 was off, i'm not getting that this time. I only mention the valve this time, as putting both on is the only way to get C/H right now.

I wondered whether it'd be worth taking out BG homecare, i'm going to change the batteries in the thermostat tonight, but failing that i'm out of ideas.

is it a wired themostat? or wireless

maybe the link is lost between the thermostat and boiler?
good shout on the battery.

Wired, I had a play tonight. Shorting it didn't do anything (and I'm surprised there's some voltage in there as the cover is very easily removed. I've fixed it and I'm quite ashamed to say it was low batteries. I wish something would flag up when they're low.
