Got to go up north for a job interview in a couple of weeks, may as well use the time to look around the place- anyone know whether theres anything worth seeing/doing there?

yeah, not driving up though but if theres something *really* worth seeing i'd be willing to hire a car for the trip (only if its good though :P).

Depends what you are into I guess really. There are plenty of places of interest around there. If you like walking etc Winter Hill isn't too far away. Not much to do there but its a nice walk none the less and takes a few hours to do it. Botany Bay is just up the motor way from Bolton and you got the lake district about an hour or so away from Bolton.

Bolton is alright for shopping but if yu want something bigger you got Manchester City Centre about 15-20 mins drive

There is nothing to do in Bolton, its just an average town with no real history.

No point going to the Reebok stadium, but there is a retail park next to it so you could do some shopping.

I lived there for 4 years from '96 to 2000. It's a poophole of a place, got burgled a few times, it's a grim grim place. That being said, Manchester and Liverpool are within reasonable distance....pretty sad really, the only saving grace about the place is that it's close to other places :D

Oh and I met my wife there, but she's from Japan so that doesn't count :p

Some nice views up there. One or two nice old buildings in the town centre, and in the surrounding areas, but not very much else to do tbh.

Ive lived in Bolton all my life, apart from the chavs etc that you get in any town, Bolton is no worse than the next. The shopping is allrite in the town centre and there are plenty of retail parks around town. But yeh theres a couple of nice walking hike paths, up to Winter Hill, and to Rivington Pike, they're always nice if the weathers good.
Nightlife is pretty standard though, only 2 nightclubs that are worth going, but plenty of bars, the usual Yates, Varsity, Barracuda etc.

cheers guys- not sure if i'll be able to check out the nightlife, got to be at the reebok stadium conference suite for 830am :( Still, will probs grab a pint or 2 with some food.

it's a **** hole with low class hooligans just like most of north England

It's practically the midlands...

The north is great. None of this psuedo-north stuff either like South Yorks.

why would you want to go to Bolton when Bury is 2 minutes away.

:o Bury is even worse.

Bolton... hmmm... let's see... fairly decent town centre both in the day (for shopping) and night (for clubbing). So many clubs and pubs to visit you'll be absolutely wasted by the time you've been to them all :D

Apart from that, errr... I know there's a big B&Q warehouse if that's your thing? Or a trip to Toys R Us? :p

Seriously, there's not a lot to do around Bolton.
