Guys,

through which site do you guys buy your tickets from for the GPs?

I'm planning on Spa next year and I'm also weighing up our options as they are plenty.

Option 1 - All inc tickets for flight, tickets and accommodation.
Option 2 - All inc tickets for ferry/euro tunnel and accommodation.
Option 3 - Drive a caravan over and camp near the circuit.

Where would you guys suggest we be accommodated? We are planning for a whole weekend there, probably arrive Thursday night. So maybe we could be accommodated somewhere that would offer a night out on Sunday after the race? If we were camping near to the circuit, this would probably not apply though.

Please tell me about your experiences, what you would recommend and what to look out for. (for your information there are approx 10 lads attending this trip).

Thanks

Drive unless you live in Scotland :p
Eurostar is extremely expensive if you're going for more than one night, but the ferry takes forever, so the choice is yours.
You can make a little road trip out of it and go to Bruges, etc.

Flying is probably more expensive? Takes about an hour to Spa from Brussels, traffic allowing.

Ah, well searched for me thanks :( :p
Is there a policy on taking booze into the ground. Also, would you recommend all inclusive coach type trip or drive over with caravan? Pros and cons I guess, but driving to the circuit could be a bummer for us

No issue at all with booze. Apart from having to carry rucksacks brimmed with beer for miles. Lighter on the way back though :).

The coach trips are restrictive. You will be tied to times to arrive and leave and where you stay so it might not fit in your plans. Driving isn't bad. Its a pretty boring route across Belgium, but its easily doable in a day.

If your looking for somewhere to go for a night our Sunday or Monday then Brussles is great, especially the area around the Grand Place.

I've driven through Belgium to Germany before, not too bad is it. I think driving would give us the flexibility over a coach. I'm struggling to find a tour that gets us there Thursday to see the practice sessions anyway.

Looking at booking a chalet at this place

http://en.eaurouge.nl/

Apparently it is about 2km walk to the track. Prices work out about £330 for a chalet for 4persons. Looking like we will be driving there on the tunnel (About £100 return on the tunnel isn't too bad between 4 in a car).

So far price is looking like this:
Early bird weekend ticket GA: £95
Four man chalet £330 (Thur-Mon)
Eurotunnel: £100 return
Fuel: £160 (two tanks of diesel)
Food + Booze £?????

Works out about £250pp without food and beer. Pretty darn cheap!

GA tickets are a little bit naff I found. Never had much bother parking but we stayed at a campsite about 8 km's away. Nice place

edit.

Also once you go through the booking process you end up with a £30 quid postage fee lol

Why naff? I hear good things about GA, how they are good value and views are good all round the track?

Typical ticket booking agencies huh!? :(

you do get to walk around the track a lot but there are actually not loads of places to stand / sit to watch half of them are up a very steep bank of trees by the bus stop and blanchimont, the best places are kemmel and Pouhon but be prepared to be up early lol.

We arrived at the track at 6.30 am on race day to be a few hundred people back in the que gates open at 7(we had a 20 min walk to where we wanted to go) and there were people sprinting to there place. It was a lot busier than I thought it would be. despite getting there that early we still did not get the seat we wanted.

It was a lot more hassle just to get a space. When one can be pre booked for you if you get my meaning.

Not saying GA is poor value or not even good but it really is out in the sticks or on two very very busy areas.

we found a place at stavelot with not so many people which was good but it had zero action the whole time. Found myself watching the TV even when cars were passing

I found campingf1 ok this year. We went as a party of 7 with a minibus for one of my mates stag dos. GA tickets were good and we landed at Pouhon for Saturday and Sunday, walked round the track on the Friday as recommended thou. Mind had a bit of advantage for race day with FIA VIP passes :D

The rarity of Grandstands at Spa makes the prices £lol unfortunately. GA is great, but you have to be there early. Even with a grandstand seat I would walk the track Friday an Saturday.

If you have the cash then by all means get a grandstand, and enjoy a lie in on race day :). You will triple you ticket prices though :(.

Nice. I shall certainly look out for you, can't miss that beast!

Out of interest, which route will you be taking? I am deliberating over the E42 or E40. E40 goes round Brussels, so I assume would be slow going up to that point. E42 is a longer route but is further south in the country, I expect it to be quieter. We are travelling on the Thursday, our camp site is at L'Eau Rouge, south of the track.

E: another Q, how are you getting to the track and back every day? Is there a bus put on for your camp site? I wonder if I could hire a bicycle, would be fun times as we're not too far from the track.

Last time we took the E42, it was great, Brussels was a bit busy as we went over the top of it but everywhere else was a good run. Also found other convoys going to spa too so had some fun.

I am driving each day, there is a coach trip from the camp site but I much prefer the ability to come and go as I please. Parking and traffic is not the greatest near the track so you should think of that solution soon :)

Just learnt that i now have a compulsory week off now that includes the bank holiday. So what else is a man to do but go to SPA.

£290 each has sorted me out a ferry for 4, our own apartment 5miles away from the circuit and GA tickets for the weekend. CANT WAIT.

I went to Hungary last year and loved it. But had grandstand seats. Any recommendations on where to aim for with GA tickets. I was thinking Bus Stop area??
