Evening,

I have narrowed down my search to either Roth OLI RA1 or Tannoy MERCURY V1, both available for £79.99.

All forms of music streamed via bluetooth or NFC from my phone or tablet through a Crystal Acoustics BluDac (if I can find one as it seems that they have sold out everywhere).

Anything else I should be considering?

ta :)

An amplifier?

I have been looking at a lot of speakers in that price range over the past couple of days. The Denon SC-N8 might be worth a look too at £75 if you want a gloss look. The Roth's do seem to be well reviewed though.

I do also have an oldish Cambridge Audio amp though will look to get a newer one at some point.

I'll have a look at those Denons. Cheers.

I would probably go with the V1 since they have a bigger woofer :p Although I prefer the modern look of the RA1 ;) If you're willing to stretch by £20 then the Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 are also a good shout.

Got myself a Crystal Acoustics BluDac earlier this year was well worth the extra money over the cheaper bluetooth receivers out there

Using with a yamaha A-S500 and a set of jpw sonata speakers music is streamed from my PC via itunes

Hmmm I can get the Diamond 9.0's for £49.99. Tempting me greatly.

Also been looking a little over budget at the Q Accoustics 2010 for £119.95.

Decision decisions..........

9.0s are vastly inferior to the 9.1s. The size and design makes a big difference.

Have you thought about going second hand? There's not much to go wrong with passive bookshelf speakers.

To be fair the 9.1's look a hell of a lot nicer as well. Aesthetics are a conisderation as I have just had the whole room redecorated and am in the process of making it look sleek and modern. Re-plastered, painted and new carpet. Furniture to follow.

I would have no issue going second hand, but would prefer to see and har them before purchasing.

Just been thinking of maybe trying out my Corsair SP2500's in there and seeing how they sound in a big room. They are sitting on my desk in my man cave doing nothing at the moment.

It is definitely worth trying out what you already have.

In the same vein I think I am going to get my parents to send up some speakers they have going spare for me to try out - some 30+ year old B&O Beovox C40s. I remember them sounding good for their small size in the breakfast room many years ago when hooked up to the big Beocenter. A T-Amp will be an interesting thing to drive them with and could provide a really compact little system.

Hmmm well the foam woofer surrounds in the C40s have perished and need replacing. I need to think whether going to the effort and small expense of doing so is worth it compared to trying to snatch some classy, yet cheap ones from Ebay

Well I went to Richer Sounds today and listened to a few.

The Tannoy Mercury V1's were superior to the Roth's. Need to find someone with some Wharfedale 9.1's to listen to.

As far as the bluetooth receiver goes, listened to the Arcam Miniblink as well and it sounds bloody good for £90.00.

Shame the sale is over on richersounds, Tannoy have introduced the new V1i recently so I'm guessing the V1 won't be available for much longer

Yeah I kind of messed up as they were available for £79 but have gone up to £99.

I'll wait a few weeks and see if I can get them cheaper.
