Boot problem

Hello all

Ive just got a new WD RE3 320GB SATA-II drive and installed Vista 64 on it. I had my old Maxtor drive attached with Windows 7 [RC] on it. When I booted up it asked me which one I wanted to choose.
Anyway I decided to wipe the maxtor and remove it and just use Vista 64 on the new drive but it wont boot up from the new drive. Any idea's why this is please?
I dont want to do a fresh install on the WD cos I have games on it that havnt had the licenses revoked. Had no idea I wouldnt be able to boot from it.

Boot from Vista disk, select Repair, that should sort out most booting problems.

Did try that but didnt work. Doesnt matter now, installed Windows 7 on new HD instead. Seems a lot better aside the odd small issue. Thanks anyway.

I've got a slightly related question-

Currently got XP and all my games and apps on an ol 160gig HD. New 500GD WD blck should be arriving today. I plan to install windows 7 on it. If I install all required drivers, firewall / antivirus etc (will transfer games over at some stage) and then boot from this drive, will anything on the other HD interfere with the new boot drive? This is new for me- i'm assuming that old drive will essentially sit there with all the data on it but with nothing 'running', is that correct?

If this is the case, as it may take a while to re-install games onto the new hdd could I just use a new shortcut to run the games from their location on the old HDD?

thanks for any advice!

I would like to keep the old XP drive useable incase I have any problems with Windows 7, i.e. so I can just change back to booting to that drive if needed.

Unplug the original HDD before installing Win7 on the new one. Once that's set up, plug it back in, go to BIOS, check HDD priorities are to boot from the new one. Then you can swap HDD priorities if you want to swap back. They can sit there happily together. Sometimes you'll be able to play games/run programs from the old HDD, some work some don't.
