Hey i built my new i7 pc last week and i have been running vista SP1 on it since then. ive noticed that coming from windows xp to vista the boot/shutdown times seem a little to much. for the speed of the pc it seems strange it takes almost a minute to boot and takes over 20/30 seconds just to shut down, i cant work it out. thanks for any help as im new to vista and am so far unimpressed : / thank you for your time.

For me on a new build it takes some time for Vista to sort itself out. Once it has, expect 30-45 second boots and 10 second shutdowns, or in that ballpark.

thats not fixing the issue of why its doing it though, and why would it need to sort itself out f its software surley its only what i do with it it wont change itsself?

IIRC when you first install it, Vista does some kind of boot profiling which allows it to boot more quickly in the future, so it might well get faster. In the meantime, do you have a lot of programs loading at startup?

no its only AVG and Sound MAX that load on startup, quick boot is enabled in the bios but i still have to sit through loads of boot sreens etc, also the windows vista loading part takes a long time. i cant figure it out comng from xp where it just worked : /

Because I7 has more virtual cores from hyperthreading Vista takes a little longer to load up as it has to load balance and I think MS need to do an I7 performance patch as some things hang or get confused. IE7 keeps locking up as do Flash9/10 based web addins.
