Anyone know any good software to format the C drive?

Maxtor Drive tools will do the job nicely. Or a windows 98 boot disk.

uh, tried using a windows 98 bootdisk to format it and then use windows to partition and reinstall.. weird that ive never known windows to refuse to format.. you did do it by booting from the CD when starting up the comp, right and not while actually logged onto windows..

XP setup will do it perfectly fine. Sounds like youre trying to format the disk youre running windows from...

A Win98 bootdisk will format FAT32 and can be downloaded from www.bootdisk.com

fdisk or gdisk ... can be google'd, downloaded, and put on flloppy ... boot to it and format the drive ... or better yet use the windows cd

Nah this is a bad drive sector, my HD afaik has bad sectors and wont remove them, I have tried almost everything apart from a new HD.

KaHn if it has bad sectors I wouldn't waste my time, better off just gettin a new drive and trying to sort that current drive out once ** system is up and running. What make is it? Download the drive utilities to check to see its current state if ya can.

I just use the maxtor disk thing, it has a EXE that automatically makes the bootable floppy for you, so no troubles.
