Is there any software that will check my boot up and tell me how long programs take to boot? Trying to find out why media centre takes so long to open after Win 7 has booted.

A boot timer will only tell you how long it takes to boot - it wont tell you individual program launch times nor why it's taking that long.

How many startup items do you have? It sounds like Windows is loading a bunch of stuff before finally opening Media Centre. Does Media Centre take an age if you open it yourself after Windows has fully started [i.e. kill any MC process and reopen].

Only got 6 things in the startup list. I have media centre set to open after windows has loaded but it takes up to 5 mins for this to happen. I can open it manually but then I end up with 2 instances of it open and have to shut one down. Not sure what I've done as it was a new build about 10 days ago and I've never come across this problem before.

Stop MC from opening with Windows.
Reboot Windows and let it settle down [i.e. everything is loaded]
Start Media Centre

This is important because it should tell you if it is Windows taking a long time to settle down, or if it is MC taking its time.

Not sure what's happening now! I unticked the option for MC to start with windows, saved, closed and restarted. Windows started as it normally does and then after a couple of mins MC started too. Checked the settings in MC and the option to start is still unticked. Not sure what to do now.

Interesting. Never heard of this before.

Might try it later on a crappy PC I have been given to fix - see if whatever it discovers is accurate!
