Got a problem with a pc on boot up. It started when the hdd would make clicking noises while booting, it got worse and eventually wouldn't get to windows. It just hung or kept restarting, i replaced the hdd which seemed to sort it out.

But a couple of weeks later it started doing it again, the hdd doesn't make a clicking anymore but it keeps restarting itself or locking up when booting. I have had it in windows a couple of times, but it just rebooted.

I was told it could be the motherboard or the psu, just wondering what anyone else thinks before i buy a new motherboard or psu for it.

Check your memory just in case. http://www.memtest86.com/

I had what I thought was a bad hard disc on my spare PC and replaced the hard drive.
Couldn't load windows on a new one, and it turned out to be a bad stick of corsair ram that had been fine for a few years.

I didn't have any ticks, just corrupt files at boot / restarting problems.

I had exactly the same problem a few months back.... It was faulty memory
