I have a white Core2Duo iMac that I was intending to put Vista x64 on. I made the assumption that being a Core2 it would be fine, but reading on t'internet it seems that only Mac Pros and some Macbook Pros are able to run the 64bit versions and everything else needs to use 32bit.

Seems a bit odd to me, does anyone know if this is true, or just out of date documentation due to naff drivers?

No, it will run x64 Vista fine. You might need some new drivers, don't know if they were included with the 10.5.2 update. But they are here in case.

I think I've figured out the reason for that Apple article. The only machines that have 64bit Vista drivers on the Leopard disks are the Mac Pro and new Macbook Pro, and you need that installer to be installed before that update you posted will work.

I managed to get hold of a Mac Pro disk and install from there.. god knows why Apple don't just make these drivers and utilities available to all!

All seems to be working fine. I have all my main apps back on and working ok. The little Bootcamp widget near the clock doesn't seem to load up, but I can live without that.

Just to let you guys know i have vista x64 tri booting on my mac book pro previous gen and everything works perfectly, i did the following:

1) Get hold of the Bootcamp 64 installer off the new macbook pro disks or the mac pro disks and install

2) Download and install the bootcamp 2.1 vista x64 update

3) Download and install the nvidia drivers from laptop video to go

4) Plug in the ethernet and do an online search for the wifi card drivers

5) All done everything works great :-) i have links for the above software if anyone needs them, drop me an email, address in trust.

Didn't need any additional drivers for the iMac, the storage, video and network drivers (the most important ones) worked out of the box with my SP1 install.. just things like audio and iSight needed the Apple drivers.
