Hi,

Does anyone know if there is a working solution to running Windows in both a Bootcamp and virtualised environment without messing up the Windows activation?

I currently have Win7 on a Bootcamp partition but it would be nice to simply use it with Fusion or Parallels when I need to quickly run a Windows application.

I have found an entry in the VMWare knowledge base of a workaround but would be interested in hearing from anyone who can confirm it works. This workaround does appear to require 2 activations but probably is OK.

Thanks

I don't know about Vmware but with Parallels you can tell it to just use your bootcamp partition as the virtualisation and it works flawlessly, no need to input the windows activation again.

A retail version of Windows (which you should be using anyway) would probably have activated fine in both bootcamp and the vm even though you shouldn't really. A machine, virtual or otherwise, in most cases require individual licenses so the activation isn't messing up - it's working as designed. if you're using an OEM version then it's going to be a lot more fickle about activation, in particular multiple activations in a short space of time.
