Hi, I have a 120GB HDD which is partitioned into two halves. One half is for OS X and the other half is for Windows 7. When I am in OS X I get two icons on the desktop. One for my Macbook partition and one that is used for BootCamp I believe. My question is how can I hide the BootCamp partition from my desktop? I've tried going to Finder's preferences and unchecking the show hard disk option, but all that is doing is hiding the Mac drive while keeping the other drive on the desktop. If anybody can help then I'd be very appreciative. :)

PS. It's OS X 10.5.7.
 
When you are booted into windows, name your windows drive and add a "." at the beginning of the name (without the quotes) eg .Windows Drive

Next time you boot into mac, the icon should have gone. (the extra "." makes the drive "invisible" to mac)

remember: you need to be booted into windows to rename the drive

Thank you. :) Although I have a question, sorry if it seems a bit silly, or noobish, but when you say name my drive? Where in Windows would I do that? Is it a case of going to "computer" Right clicking and renaming the drive there? Thanks. :)
 
I don't like that method, I used it originally but I found it somewhat inelegant. So I searched and found this which involves a bit of terminal stuff but worked very well.
 
Thank you Feek. By the way, it mentions on that website that the method they explain unmounts the BootCamp drive. Does this mean that I have to Re-Mount it before I can boot into Windows? Or will just restarting and holding the option key still work? :)

Yup thats exactly right.

Feeks method unmounts the Windows drive, so its not as useful when you might need something from the windows partition from within Mac.

yes it will work, to boot into windows just hold down the Option key, no need to remount.
 
You can also rename the drive via Computer Management.

This can be accessed by right-clicking My Computer and selecting "manage", then going to Local Disks, and changing the names.

Thanks, that's the method I chose afterwards. :) The other method seemed a little long winded to me, I don't mind if the drive displays in other areas, I just wanted it off the desktop. :) Cheers!
