Hi I have just upgraded the HDD in my 2009 IMac to a 3TB and have learn that Windows 7 will not recognise it when installing through boot camp.

This may not be possible but is worth asking..

Could I create a partition on the 3TB for my Windows files and applications and use a separate 64Gb USB stick with Windows 7 on to boot and run Windows?

Is this possible or am I being daft?

I don't see why not - although you might find having the OS on the USB stick will slow it down - read a writes are not too high for it. Could be worth your while moving the page file etc to the HDD.

Where did you read that 3TB drives wouldn't be recognised by bootcamp?

3TB drives should work fine! You would have course also be able to partition it if you so wished but you may as well go the simple bootcamp route...
