Booting without...

I boot without..
CMOS in correct position.
Battery out of mobo.
RAM in wrong slots (only way it works)

Does it matter?

CMOS battery missing will just mean you revert to defaults (inc date, probably circa 1980) every time you boot.

On a desktop board, its highly unlikely that RAM can technically be in "the wrong slots". If it boots its right.

??? what an odd question? my motherboard wont post with the cmos jumper in the wrong position

If the CMOS jumper is in the wrong position during normal operation it can potentially damage the board.

I think (hope) he has worded it wrong, and that infact, he boots:

With jumper in correct position
CMOS Battery out
RAM in Random Slots.

Regarding the RAM I think he means that he is not using it in the proper positions for dual channel operation.

I put CMOS jumper over pins 1/2 to reset, but forgot to put jumper back on 2/3.
I pulled Battery out and forgot to put it back in.
I put ram in slots 3/4 instead of 1/3 or 2/4.

Yep, it booted fine and put them back and still fine.
