BOOTMSG is missing.

okay so i have an issue when i start up my computer it comes up with BOOTMSG missing press ctrl + alt + del to restart.

before this came about, i had an error when i tried to log on, cant remmeber the exact error, but it was cant load user profile or osmething, it loaded up in safe mode however. so i was re-installing the computer back to a restore piont a couple of days ago. this completed succesfully, and it restarted to get ready, thats when this error came about. it comes up just after the ADVENT with the press del to enter start up menu, and esc for boot menu, it comes up just after that.

any help would be much appreciated, thanks

oh and, its BOOTMGR, not BOOTMSG, my bad :/

do u have a recovery disk , insert that

go to command promt and type in bootrec.exe

then u can type bootrec /fixmbr or bootrec /rebuildbcd and hit enter should be good to go then

right, found the recovery disc, its not in mint condish' however. and does nothing when i put it in, i booted it from the CD using the boot menu, but it still goes streight to the BOOTMGR error. is there a way i can test this with another PC, even though its a different make (mine is Advent, an none of the others are). any ideas?

go into bios and change the boot order to the cd dvd first

or keep pressin f8 or f12 and you will get a boot options up , it differs for each computer mine is f9

you may need to make a new iso then if it aint in good condition

done that, but i dont think the CD is read, cos its not in good condition, is there anything other than that i can do? - im testing if it works on this computer, if i can then ill burn it to a blank, as my comoputer has a reputation to not read CD's when there even just slightly damaged :L

you can use your actual windows disk and choose the repair option

ah, well, i think thats gonoe completely tbh, but with the recovery disc, i ripped it to this computer, and burnt it to a disc, just about to check if it works now

okay so, that didnt work, but i got some more information to work on. i put the disc in, same thing happned, then i thought, heh, i guess if i make boot only from a cd (long shot as there would be no drive but hey) and it came up saying the cd was read, and i saw the gui for like, a second, thenn it went on to saying select proper boot dedvice prees any key to continue. i put the drive back in order, 2nd to the cd still, and the BOOTMGR came up.
iv also decided that i dont mind if the drives lost, is there any way to wipe it and install a new OS onto it?

get your self a fresh copy and burn at slowest speed , then it wont be damaged at all

i would go to http://forums.mydigitallife.info/th...7-Ultimate-SP1_U-x86-x64-ISO-Download-English which aint a torrent site but offer windows 7's with sp1 untouched copys

before all that tho , you can try booting from a usb into recovery options so save u formatting

iv got a legal windows 7 on my pc now, only one more porlem (i hope) to get round, i need a product key :/ im just about to look for some round the house, that havnt been used or something.

Last time i saw BOOTMGR was when a friend tried to burn a fake copy of w7 on a disk and installed it. In the end he bought windows 7 as it was much simpler and the price for retail....you cant go wrong.

If you have legal windows 7, look on the box for the key. If you have no box, you dont have legal windows 7. If your on branded pc, look at the serial code on the side panel. There will be a W7 code there. If your using a downloaded version from windows themselves (like an upgrade) use your previous os (vista and xp)
