Boots disintegrated!

I got home after a trip to the Yorkshire moors yesterday, cleaned my wifes boots, then started cleaning mine and was shocked to see that my boots sole seemed to have disintegrated!

I certainly didn’t notice anything wrong with my boots while walking and they never let any water in. It seems to have affected both left and right at the same time, has anybody seen this happen before?

Also as a second question, is this repairable? I love my Meindl boots and don’t really have the time to faf about shopping for a new pair and break them in before going to the Lakes for a week at Easter.

Try there!
edit: I should say that was who we used when I was in the outdoor gear industry and they were good.

Excellent, that’s not a bad idea and a reasonable price. The boots are about 6 years old and I paid a fair amount for them. What is more important is that they are still waterproof and fit me properly, very comfortable all day long :)

I've also e-mailed Meindl to see what they suggest.

I think we're off to Keswick, not exactly sure but its in the right area :D

i have had a pair of Altbergs for 11 years now, wear them daily, there due a resole so will be sending them off soon.

I also have a pair of Altbergs - you'll be sort of going nearby richmond, assuming you're taking the A66, may be worth popping in to the factory/shop? :)

Re Altbergs, I've heard very good things about them. My mother has a custom pair made for her and she can't speak highly enough of them. see here http://www.altberg.co.uk

Yes we'll be going over on the A66, I'll probably go to talk with them even if I can work something out with Meindl about getting them resoled. My feet haven't changed for years now so maybe I will spend some money on a nice custom pair of Altbergs. Meindl to their credit have already e-mailed me back asking for some additional info which is really impressive since I only contacted them late last night.
Reading the title thought it was the store chain! lol!
sorry, looking back it is slightly misleading

Wouldnt possibly be Chemical damage, i know out in the country side that is a far shot, but i stood on something in a pair of boots once and the soles litteraly dissolved.

I have a pair of walking Hi-tec shoes i got from Tissot about 3 years ago for £60.00 there great still look strong and as they were when i got them and they have done a fair few miles.

As a kid i would never have worn Hi-tec now i consider them just as good.
