Went to start Borderlands 2, and got an error message saying that some local file didn't match the one on the cloud, and was given the option to either download the one from the cloud, or upload the local one.

I went for the cloud option and now my character's gone back to 3 levels ago

Absolutely fuming. I've lost all the weapons, upgrades, missions, etc I picked up since then (I'm supposed to be level 19!)

Is there any way I can 'revert' to the last (correct) savegame file?

I don't think there's anyway to revert but for future reference my rule is this:

If you're still playing on the same machine you last saved on use the local file else use the cloud file.

Steam Cloud should really tell you which file is the most recent to help avoid problems like this.

Edit: A long shot but maybe if you have system protection enabled you might be able to restore a previous version of the file. Go to the properties of the file and see if you have the ability to restore it.

Seriously, why do people keep doing this?

Surely it's obvious that your local files are the newest?

if it ever gives you this option copy your save film its in

My Documents> My Games> Borderlands 2>Willow game>save game

Copy and paste it to desk top then try the one of steam if its the wrong one

Exit game and copy and paste the folder of your desk top to the same place you got it from and try that ;)

I lost six hours of Torchlight 2 because I had been using my laptop to play whilst on a business trip, but my home PC was only in sleep. When I turned it back on it didn't automatically sync because Steam didn't know it had been asleep for three days. I started playing and then noticed my save was wrong. Of course on exit it sync'd for me and bang, six hours play gone.

So even when using it for it's intended purpose of playing on multiple machines it is easily fooled.

yeah i had the same with torchlight 2, but was able to revert the saves back to where i was (when i over wrote them with the cloud versions) as TL2 made backups in the save folder.

Game Save Manager can help here. It has a feature where it makes a new backup of a save game every time you play a game, or on a schedule. So, you'd always have a recent backup.

yep Steam Cloud seems a little broken with Borderlands 2.

I have to manually backup my saves in dropbox to keep progression between my home and work PC :(

Gah! Now you tell me. Just finished re-levelling my two chars to lvl 20 :o

I've always used local as it's always (for me) been the latest.

Tends to depend how many machines you are using, if I play at work and then later on play at home I don't get the latest save from work. It just doesn't seem to be uploading the latest save. And vice versa.

All over games that use it are fine, I just seem to have a big problem with Borderlands 2.

i posted this problem like almost a week ago, just switch it off and let the saving go to your local drive.

Good point, I only use one computer for games.
