borderlands worth a shot?

I think so, I wasnt sure I would like it for a variety of reasons, but was quite surprised to find that I really enjoyed it. Its got some flaws certainly, mainly that it can be a touch easy in places and that it does get repetitive.

Then again the same could be said of Diablo 2 (and Borderlands kind of reminds me of a fps Diablo 2 in its gameplay mechanics).

I think what Borderlands needs to be a long term success is good support and some decent additional content. More variety in items, landscapes, enemies etc and an expansion of the class spec system would do wonders for its longevity.

that sounds pretty positive well i have just purchased it now as i do love the idea of extreme quantities of unique loot and the mexhanics are just very original, for a fps that is. Thanks mate

Its pants, brother brought it round after he got bored with it, gave it a couple of hours and couldnt be doing with it.

Been enjoying it on 360. Amongst trying to play this and Forza 3, or Dragon Age - this has been my joint prefered game. Does get repetitive single player, but even so have really enjoyed the quest/loot gameplay. Very MMO-like.

The first DLC (which I've started at Lvl.21) is also proving to be different enough to warrant the £7 I've spent on it. Although I haven't tried the follow-up DLC.

its very fun the first time through + its dlc but its proble best as mp as its very reptitive when you play it a second time

Its boring in Singleplayer, but the enjoyment increases exponentially with the amount of players playing. Get 4 mates and its a real laugh, and pretty tough in places too.

However it does need more variety in the loot and class systems.

It fails as a game when a game is designed to be better with more rewards only on the second playthrough, I shouldn't have to play identical content twice to get better guns, which are marginally better in general and is entirely dull. Multiplayer, for me, other than being buggy as hell was boring and pointless.

The game was FAR to limited with FAR to tight control on where you could go and when, a easy normal enemy 3 levels above you can rape you, a boss type 3 levels above is almost unkillable, and a guy who was a hard kill at 1level above you, takes one hit 1 level below you. Along with the way it funnels you towards area's till you are high enough level to hurt the higher level guys, its simply too easy. Most of the "quests" were ridiculously easy and due to the nature of leveling were horribly badly paced with almost no quests throughout the game being anything but easy and rated 1-3 levels below you by the time you get them.

Basically it needed a LOT of work on pacing, evening out the difference in power/damage/damage taken with level increase, harder and smarter enemies. For a game all about loot, well, more options for loot = better game for loot. They really should have had a whole armour setup and also better pacing for damage vs level on the weapons aswell.

Almost everyone I played with found a decent/fantastic revolver before halfway through and found it better than everything they picked up before the end of the game. I got a level 18 revolver, 2 shot, that reloaded stupidly fast, had high damage, very high ele chance, sniper style scope on it and basically could kill anything in the game at any range with no effort.

So harder, more options for loot, as mostly the game was about picking up crap weapons till you're full and selling and hoping the gun vending machines would sell a nice red text gun, which they always did, better pacing with leveling, harder enemies who don't become a joke at -1level to you, and a better story.

Its so close, its right on the brink of being a truly great game, because despite all those flaws unlike so many other games, it was still fun to play, truly dissappointing ending(both in story and the fight itself).

If you can grab it on one of the steam deals or in the sale stupidly cheap, go for it, but don't expect it to be a really fantastic game with gripping story and never ending fantastic guns, the massive majority of guns you pick up are beyond crap.

Although that same formula worked very well for Diablo 2 and Titan Quest.

Definitely agree with that

And that :)

It is OK.

As you progress through the game though the bosses get less and less challenging.
It is all about loot, changing your weapons often. Theres loads of quests, but most you won't do as you level up and they become worthless (kind of like on WoW).
The graphics are quite nice and are the games strongest point.

I would say about 15-20hours to finish the main quest and some side quests.
It is not worth £25 but well worth under £15.

I wouldn't bother mate go to zavvi.com they have is on special there for 12.95, even if steam reduces it i doubt it will drop below that figure.

Had it on order from zavvi @ 12.95 for almost 3 weeks now, if steam drops it down to the £15 mark i'll buy it and cancel my zavvi order!
