Borderlands

Read this today.
Devoted Borderlands player Michael John Mamaril died yesterday from cancer at the age of 22. Don't know Michael? You will. You'll meet him in Borderlands 2.

Michael's friend Carlo emailed Gearbox Software after his death to request that David Eddings, voice of comedy robot character Claptrap, record a eulogy. The Gearbox team haven't just acceded to his request - get the audio below - they've also opted to create a non-playable character based on Michael in the new Borderlands. Talk about fan service.

We don't have much to add to this, other than that we're moved and a little confused. Read more about Gearbox's next open world RPG-shooter in our Borderlands 2 preview.

Bump.

Just downloaded this free from PSN+ a few days ago so I thought I would bump this thread.

I am currently level 16 and have to fight a boss called Sledge. There was no difficulty option when I started the game so I assume there is only 1 setting, on which I am struggling a bit.

It seems to take me ages to kill enemies and I seem to be wasting a lot of money on Ammo. For example there are enemies called Bruisers. The most powerful weapon I have is a Sniper rifle and it takes a good 30 + hits, even headshots don't help much to kill him. It only takes him 1 or 2 shots to fully deplete my shield which means I then have to wait for it to recharge. Then I die and have to buy loads more bullets and continue where I left off.

Should I have good weapons by now that I may have missed? I am just doing the missions in the order I am offered them and I have visited only 1 bounty board so far.

Any tips welcome.

Level 16 should be adequate to kill Sledge. I always tend to use elemental weapons so a shock gun to take shields down and then a fire weapon to finish. Snipers should be able to kill bruisers in about four hits with headshots. You know you've got a headshot when you see "Critical" flash up in red.

What character are you?

Given how frequently weapons drop it's pretty much impossible to go any real amount of time without an appropriate gun, so my best guess would be that you're attempting missions that are higher level than you currently are. Doing this really can make the game anywhere from difficult to all but impossible, have a look in your quest log to see what level the quests you have available are, if they're all above you maybe try talking to a few NPC's to see if they generate any quests more suited to your level.

I picked the female character. cba to start again, but I thought you would eventually have all characters and swap between them or something!

I did get a fire pistol that I got off an early boss but haven't run into any other elemental weapons, apart from a fire sniper that I sold.

I will double check, but it takes a lot more than 4 critical headshots for the bruiser to go down, maybe I have a crappy sniper rifle?

I'll look for some NPC's although I have only encountered a doctor and another guy who I forget so far.

There are a lot of weapon drops, almost too many tbh. I normally just sell them for cash, unless the level is high enough.

The boss himself is difficult (not beaten him yet), but it is more the length of time taken to take down "normal" bad guys that is taking the fun away. I haven't figured out how the save system fully works, but I quite whilst fighting the boss so either I will continue there (or knowing my luck) have to do the whole build up to him again.

The game restarts you at the nearest New-U station on the level you are on and resets all the baddies when you quit. So unfortunately, you will have to fight them all again.

Lilith should really use SMG's but a decent pistol and shotgun will also work. Snipers are ok for her but you'll need a decent one such as a Pele (orange weapon) which will obliterate pretty much anything. Try re-killing One-Eyed Jack because his SMG can be powerful for low levels (eats through ammo though).

OK, great tip on SMGs. Apart from the speed they go through bullets they seem to be ripping up all enemies I come across!! Also the one I found has Fire and I found a Electricity shotgun. Much easier now, use the Shottie to take away shield and the Fire to finish them off!!

Yep always good to mix elemental damage.
Borderlands is quite easy as long as you have the right equipment. There's only 1 enemy which needs attention but thats in the general Knoxx DLC.

Keep an eye out for guns called Volcano (aka Pele's), Defilers and Hellfires. There are also several good Pearls but they are extremely rare so need a lot of grinding.

I never found a pearlescent weapon in all the hours I played. Even killing Crawmerax three times yielded nothing interesting. :(

I ended up playing the game with Maliwan Combustion Hellfire and nothing else really. :D

I must have killed Craw a couple of hundred times with my brother until his Fat PS3 broke. I think we got around 30 Pearls overall but I don't think they were worth the effort. Tsunami's were pretty useful and the Orion helped a lot to solo Craw; can't remember any other Pearls though except the useless shields.
I think my Lilith had a double anarchy, hellfire, defiler and tsunami as it's 4 chosen weapons.
The Chopper was also amazing if you got a decent one. Quite a rare drop from Motorhead if I remember correctly.

Apart from weapons dropped by bosses, are the rest random?

So far I have just sold the ones the bosses give me (purple ones). I got a very powerful shotgun from Sledge, but the accuracy was rubbish so sold it for over 3000.
