Boredom...

Not sure if it's normal but I'm getting a bit bored with the motor (after ~3 months) and am debating getting something else. I think after going karting a few times recently, maybe I feel a bit "disconnected" from the car as it's so insulated and quiet inside? (this doesn't mean I want to cane it everywhere like a Boy Racer) :(

Am I just being a ****? - I'm thinking used prices will go down quite quickly in the next year but I'm an impatient git :D

VX220 about as close to a go kart as you could get :p

3 problems...

1) Don't like the Styling
2) Prefer the Elise S2
3) The area I live in would mean I wouldn't sleep at night!

:)

Interim solutions until I move... hrmmm... maybe I would get away with an S2000 - people up my road have various BMWs, someone has a Crossfire (spit), and another guy has an Audi S3. Don't want to be too conspicious.. I have 7K sitting around so on top of what I could sell my Golf for I do wonder whether it's worth a short term fix...

Maybe I'm just being a tart like a bird wanting a new pair of shoes but meh!

People do get bored of their cars, it does happen :p

Maybe I feel a bit stupid because I'm getting looks of shock from friends and family but to be honest, the initial novelty of the turbo kick coming up from a crappy old 306 has worn off.

I've had to fix a few common Mk4 problems which has sort of tarnished the whole experience for me as well tbh. Maybe I'm way too fussy though...

EDIT: No garage - only street parking for reply above ;)

Hrm.. as much as I like them, I couldn't take the constant torrent of hairdresser jokes (newer shape ones are really nice though) ;)

Build a garage?

Someone across the street has a garage that they never use and I was tempted to ask about renting it out - the problem is that everyone else around here now knows it's not used so I'd end up blocked in 95% of the time (it has a dropped kerb too).

There is no space to build a garage on the current property I'm in.

Until I move (and in the current climate that won't happen until next year), I'll have to be a bit conservative in my choices - ie: something not quite as mad as the most expensive cars up my street so I'm not the first one to get vandalised should some chav go on a jealousy-fuelled jamboree :(

Its becuase you've got a Mk4 Golf - maybe get something a bit more involving to drive like for example a canal boat. Only joking but perhaps some sort of Type R Honda might be more your thing if you dont like the refinement?

It's slightly more involving without the traction control on, honest ;) I can't put my finger on it lately, I'm just getting bored of it, and ignoring astonished looks from friends :p

"VTEC y0", from what I read, means ragging the nuts off it to get power? Although I'm probably misinformed :) An approved 2.0i S2000 can be had for not too bad a price just idly browsing online... I might have a test drive when I finally get some time off :p

Not sure on the CTRs - aren't they popular thievery targets? Tegs are a bit big for my taste too at the moment.

A VTEC engine rewards a good thrashing which is probably why its not my thing but it sounds like it could be yours.

Civics used to be a target for theives but now they are cheap they are less bothered.

I dont understand how a Teg can be a bit big - it's a small car, the only big Type R they did was the Accord.

Looks like your goign to have to get respect from the locals to avoid getting your car ruined...

Buy a 1.1 Saxo, tune it with thousands of pounds to give it 10 more BHP, stick fiberglass wings and bumpers on it, paint random panels in primer and fit some fake Recaro seats... The locals will love you, it will be 'unique', and more intereting than a Golf.

Not at all. It's a generic car. I got bored of my Focus ages ago. I almost hate the thing now in some ways. Finally will change soon as I'm no longer a pennyless student :p

Perhaps it's just my perception when I've seen them, but the Teg type Rs look like big cars. Could be an illusion... What is power delivery like on the CTRs before VTEC kicks in?

I'm making it sound worse than it is as there would be a few cars here that would be targetted first, I'm just paranoid. What you said reminded me of a few funny "mods" some of the young'uns have done a short distance from here though... fake "alloys" cable tied on to the standard steel wheels etc ;) I'll have to get a few photos for the Daily encounter thread sometime.

I've actually had a few chavs compliment my car which is probably not a good sign ;)

Must be, its a pokey little 2 door coupe/hatch thingy.

Rubbish, there isn't really any power. You need to cane it to move - and it moves quite well once you've done so, but below VTEC there is nothing there.

D'oh after googling, I'm mixing it up with the Accord. </pleb>

Hrm, I'm not sure that would really be my thing - I do like being able to overtake pretty quickly and safely in the current motor without revving it like there's no tomorrow :) I'll have a test drive when I get a chance anyway though. Maybe something else with a turbo but more interesting might be on the cards. Thanks :)

Off to bed now to sleep on it. :D

Personally I think you would get bored of a CTR after a couple of months too..

I would get you down your local honda dealer to give a s2000 a test drive and then a CTR while your at it.. ;)

I would look at an: older teg, s2000, or an impractical weekend car like a kit car or stripped out track ready car

s2000 or vx220 (stretch to a vx220 turbo with a loan? :P), you will get bored of type r's and such easily after reading what you have said. I tested a VX220 turbo and my god its a thing of beauty, but ultimatly ive got my eyes on a nice s2000 when i find one that catchs me, prefered some more creature comforts over the speed/handling, must be old age :(
