Bose QuietComfort 15 (£300).. anyone own a pair?

For the price i wouldn't bother, you can buy far better headphones.

Denon ahd5000 are meant to be lovely.

£350 if you nose around, bose aren't bad it's just you can get the same if not better for far less.

Ok what sort of music you listen to, that will usually dictate what you're after.

Did you like your akg, there are the 701/702's which are much cheaper, or at the opposite end there's sennheiser which give a warmer sound.

All depends on what you're after.

what the hell.. 300 for headphones? :O never paid more than £30 :O

You've never heard such headphones though. ;)

I thought Sennheiser > all, or have its competitors overtaken it by now?

Sennheiser are still one of the top dogs, but that's exactly it, one of. Hence why im asking what you're after and what you listen to, there's so many out there.

i have quiet comfort 3 and have had them for ages - very solidly built and noice cancelling with bose is excellent if that's what you're after

Can we ask what source you have feeding them ?

I take it you have a decent enough sound system....... Please don't tell me you are plugging them into an Ipod / or amp supplied from an MP3 based source - as it will be a complete waste of money.

Not true about it being waste of money

Quiet comfort's were originally designed for use on planes, hence the noice cancelling ability. Used to be one of the best, but times have changed now.

I have Sony Walkman X.

Sleek audio customs i would recommend, £270 plus whatever for your ear impressions, great sound and very comfy i should know i have a pair i use a lot with my cowon s9.

Honestly, your walkman would have a job running a big set of cans without an amp, or if you don't want customs then look at sennheiser ie8, very popular.

Sleek audio have their sa7's on the way that look interesting, all sleeks can run with their wireless unit as well, or there's the westone um3x

QuietComfort 15's are excellent. But it depends what your looking for.

If you want a comfortable lightweight, good sounding headset then the Bose are great and the noisecancelling is brilliant. (Very valuable for frequant flyers).

On the flipside if its just all about sound quality then some Sennheisers or BD headphones are always a good choice, but bare in mind i would consider most of these 'at home' headsets as they are generally speaking quite big and bulky and in some cases open design like many Senns which is definately not good if your using them when travelling.

Just FYI i use QC15's on the plane and Sennheiser 595 when at home with an amp....

The QC15's are pretty decent, you want to try some though..

I am lucky in that since a few of us in work are frequent flyers, a couple of the guys are nuts about their noise cancelling headphones..

I've borrowed lots of headphones for long haul flights, and can say that if total isolation is what you need, the Bose works best by far..
However, as headphones, they don't sound very forward, and are a bit rounded meaning they don't quite cut it with some music types for me..
The Monster Beats are the other pair I've tried, and the only other noise cancelling headphone I'd consider, the noise cancelling isn't quite as good as the bose, but still quite impressive, it's just the forward/open and punchier sound from the Monsters really suit some music types so well that if you listen to anything with a punchy bass/mid-bass they sound superb and much better then the Bose, The problem is if you then switch to a more laid back track, you are dragged back down to earth with a bump where they sound just sound quite 'normal', almost disappointingly!

Some large curry megastores have Monster Beats and Bose displays, you can even plug your own MP3 player in with the Monster displays, the Bose is a fixed 'demo' though..

One other tihng, the Bose excel if you listen to delicate music and want to use them in a more crowded/randomly noisy environment, e.g. a crowded bus/train..
