Both HDD's faulty???

Sounds like both have been treated badly in transit or form part of a bad batch. Get in contact with the point of sale and let them know. They should ask you to return them for RMA, and depending on the retailer they may just send you some new ones straight out. You could also ask if they've had a lot of these recently, confirming perhaps a bad batch.

what operating system you useing m8 had simular prob with drives not showing with windows vista 64 with samsung f3 500 drive all sorted now so could be the same thing

Hey Alex, well I haven't got any OS at the moment in the new machine but my old system runs XP SP3; still, the problem remains that it can't be detected at boot - ho, hum.

If they're not detected by the BIOS it's a serious problem. Coupled with the clicking it sounds like typical hard drive failure.

You are not allowed to mention competitors on this forum, I suggest you edit them out of your post ASAP.

You have your statutory rights regarding these matters, there's no reason why the retailer should not replace an item that was faulty on receipt, when you send them back they'll see they're faulty and replace them for you, or send them off to Samsung for repair. As I said, depending on the retailer, they may just send new ones, OcUK often do this with faulty items I've noticed. As for other retailers, I can't say, but there's certainly no need to buy insurance against faulty items whilst they're in warranty.

id remove that name m8 type dont no about xp but i used the internet my disc wasnt anitialized when i sorted that i formatted it and every thing was fine but i didnt have a clunking noise you say you can see them in bios yes

Thanks for the warning guys! and thanks for the consumer advice, I feel a little easier.

Alex, I am in the Midlands; Birmingham area, whereabouts are you? They are not posting in the BIOS either unfortunately, it was my old drive that did. The clunking noise, strangely enough, has subsided unless it was amplified by my case.
