heya im running a pretty cheap comp compared to a lot of you guys im just wondering if my new gpu is been bottlenecked? :)

fsp blue storm psu 500 watt
asrock 939 dual vsta
1 gig ddr400 cheapo stuff
athlon 64 sandy 3700 @ 2.6 (only gained about 500/600 3d marks when i put it to that)
ocuk/triplex 1950 pro pcie 256 mb
vista ultimate :(

getting about 13000 on 3dmark 03 and about 8.5k on 05 does that seem normal for this rig?

gonna be doubling ram very soon and thinking of a dual core cpu although might be cheaper just to get a core 2 duo set up.

You would hope to get between 9-10k on a stock speed 1950 pro with a c2d at reasonable levels. Have you tried o/cing your pro yet?

Ask yourself whether it's worth upgrading to c2d for a few more frames with your current setup. Forgetting the 3dmark 05 score, are you happy with the way it actually plays the games?

Exactly! Never done 3dmark on my system, I just know it runs all my games exactly as I like them to look, with smooth frame rates. Only bench I ever use is the stress test in CS:S.

If it plays ok, dont worry about your 3dmark score.

i think you are fine with that and wouldnt worry, only thing i would do that may help you in over all performance is making it 2gb of ram. other wise your next upgrade should be a full c2d setup further down the line sometime next year. if you were planning a c2d setup this year then maybe dont bother with the ram as you will need ddr2 with a c2d

I had a similar setup to Yrkoon (same M/board same CPU) I went to 4600X2 & wasn't impressed with the performance gain in gaming. How much difference would going from 1Gb to 2Gb make ? I have upped other rigs from 1/2 to 1Gb & the difference was barely perceptable.

thanks for the help guys :) reason i was thinking of upgrading was some of my games aren't running to well as in stuttering especially fear and oblivion could just be vista.

hopefully more ram will stop that and gonna try to get xp on a dual boot again for they games and see how they run :)

1 gig extra should help reduce the stuttering in vista....either that or get a cheap core2duo setup.

i would have stuck to xp though....its a lot more friendly to a setup like that.
