If you're looking for 'bang for the buck' on a cpu/mobo upgrade.. I would recommend taking a look on newegg's combo site.
I upgraded to a phenom II x3 715 and it has possibility of unlocking the 4th core(or so reviews say) The combo I got was with the ASUS board for $127 USD. It has the unlock feature on bootup, easily overclockable, and supports x6 processors as well... take a look!
The only thing bottlenecking my setup now is my hdd. I'm thinking a 32gb SSD + a 1tb F3
