Hey

Cars recently been bottoming out over speedbumps

Had a friendly mechanic look and he said the car dosent bounce as a poor shock would do but it does roll a little too much around bends and also bounce a bit after a bump.

So was recommended to get them replaced

Does anyone know of a good brand? I have seen Bilstien B4 on ebay for around £200 a set, but am unsure how stiff vs the originals they would be?

Anyone got any ideas what the best ones are to go for? Don't have much of a budget tbh and I would try to do the work myself, u did swap my own springs so can do it.

Thanks

Probably just lowering springs on stock shocks. B4's are OK but it might be worth going for something better suited to the springs? KYB Ultras are good value I think?

Yea it's been lowered. Only a minor drop tho of 25mm?

Was thinking OEM, but those cost more than the Bilstien.

Kyb ultra, will have a look

depends on the speedbumps, there's some in my town that a stock fabia (with it's decidedly average ground clearance) will bottom out on.

i swear one day i'll snap, rent a bulldozer, and be dragged to prison being hailed by petrolheads everywhere as a hero.

I have the same car, the same age and with more mileage (?) - I'd be staggered and disgusted if a shock had failed on mine.

Put the original springs back on it, they handle brilliantly for a run of the mill diesel hatch. The fact they manage that without being overly hard (and bottoming out over bumps) is one of the best things about them

Well it was fine until this week! Supposedly it can happen on original shocks with lowering sprints.

I've found Demontweeks to be really good on prices for suspension parts in the past.

e; £57 a corner for B4's at Demontweeks, but they don't have KYB Ultra-SR's for your car.

It'll be your springs.. that messed around with your shocks.. ! The general idea with mazda 3s is to replace shocks with b8s while lowering.. and with that a good set of coils works out the same ;)

Well... at the time I thought OEM were fine.
No matter, I will be ordering some b8s fro the front. The rear is perfectly fine as they are.

That sounds like a great idea....... :p

I don't see why not. The rear don't seem to have an issue at the moment. Of going for b8's will stiffen up the front, and is best to do them all. But I will need to wait for the following month to do the rear too.

Then just wait

At least you aren't planning on only changing the fronts - wait until you can do all 4 then you will only need one alignment, drop links will all be changed at once, top mounts if it needs them etc
