BOTW Weekly Results Round J - Just Enough

I know. My missus is from here and she's been saying it like that for a while. I find it amusing (I'm from Oxford).

Also, BrewDog for strong and tasty beers. They've released all their recipes too so might try making some that you can't get any more when we get the house.

Where do you guys/gals get your strong beers from?
Supermarkets/online local offy? :)

I suspect a lot of them came from specialist beer shops or online orders. I am a big fan of strong (as in higher ABV) ales but they arent really that popular in the UK compared to a lot of other countries... Probably because of the negative connotations surrounding high alcohol content but is also maybe a historic thing due to taxation as historically England used to brew barley wines and impreial russian stouts.

If you want to strong beers from supermarkets beyond Special Brew & Kestrel etc. The picking are a bit slim but there are a few out there.

Adnams Broadside (6.3%) is a decent ale and available in multiple supermarkets. A bit of a 'marmite' beer as has quite a unique taste.

Tesco Finest Double IPA (9.2%) Is made by Brewdog and is a good imperial/double IPA (not great compared to american DIPA but still good)

Chimay blue (9%) is a classic Belgian dark ale available in Tesco. Great stuff!

Duvel (8.5%) is Belgian strong golden ale available in lots of supermarkets. Very differnt style to Chimay but a great beer.

Old Tom (8.5%) is an British 'old ale' and very much of a winter beer with lots of complex malt favour and light on the hops. A really great beer and one of my favourites. Should be able to buy in Sainsbury.

Manchester Star Ale (7.3%) Like Old Tom another English 'old ale' with dark fruity/chocolate flavour. Available in Sainsbury.

St Stefanus Blonde (7%) Like Duvel this is a Belgian golden ale. Can be bought in Tesco but is a little pricey.

Waitrose and Marks & Spencer will likely also have some additional options.

I wouldn't class 9% as a 'strong ale'. Most moderate IPAs nowadays are between 6.5-7.5%.

A 15% Imperial Russian Stout or a 12% TIPA I would.

Tesco Finest Double IPA is good, it is just Brewdog Hardcore IPA, their only decent beer imo, and it is an American DIPA (American hops)

Overall you won't get many great strong beers in supermarkets. Tesco is probably the best for selection for the big chains but depending where you're located Booths or Whole Foods usually have the best overall selection.

I'm up north and my local Booths is ridiculously good. I've only seen a better variety at Whole Foods in the states.

Thanks for the suggestions :)
Yeah Tesco is my food shop of choice/convenience
Special Brew is about the only `strong` beer/lager they stock at my local one
I do like 1 or 2 strong ones on a lazy Sunday afternoon:p

Really? I suspect most IPAs served in your average Leeds boozer are significantly weaker than the 6.5-7.5% range you quote.
Depends on which route your looking. Cask IPA's mass produced seem to be about the 3.5-4.5% level. Go down any of the craft lines and they'll be at least 6 (unless it's a session IPA) Things served down the local boozer is never really going to be high strength :(

Leeds has about 10-15 great bars that sell great craft beer. Definitely more bars than pubs (Boozers) Only city I have been to with a better selection of bars is London.

Then look at the breweries local to me. Vocation's IPA is 6.5%, Magic Rock's Cannonball IPA is 7.4% and Cloudwater's recent Winter Range IPA was 8%!

These are the three beers I see most in Leeds bars.
