As title bought a fanxiang 1TB External SSD, Up to 2000MB/s, USB-C USB 3.2 Gen SSD PS2000W from a well known online store for £63.95 and received it today, here's the benchmarks...

In my motherboards USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C® port...

In my Mac Mini M4 thunderbolt port...

My old Crucial X6 2TB external SSD in motherboard USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C® port...

My old Corsair 1.92TB Internal NVMe drive in a PCI-E x1 Adapter...

Not bad for £63.95, no guarantees how long it will last but good so far.

Nice scores, how's long term reliability with copying large files over on the fanxiang 1TB External SSD?

Also the mac minis thunderbolt 4 numbers are bit low, considering 40gbps speeds or is that normal?

I still much prefer the idea of replacing usb flash drives which are pants really for long term usage and durability and replacing low cost nvme drives gen3+ in enclosures, its just most enclosures can be equally poor and unreliable compared to these smaller drives with 10gbps or beyond speeds, like the Fanxiant 1tb ssd.

Dunno about long term reliability, only received the drive yesterday. Don't know why the Mac mini scores are so low, its not just the Mac mini though there's people who've tried the drive on a standard Type-C port on an up to date motherboard and got similar results.

There's something special about the USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C® port I connected it to, I have other Type-C ports available but I connected it straight into the USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C® port which I believe is the fastest.

Its not the drive either, there's people who've bought the more expensive Crucial X10 who've had issues with not getting the 2000 MB/s read speeds advertised, again probably because they are using a standard Type-C port rather than a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C® port.

I was fully aware that the Mac mini wouldn't get the full speeds before I bought the drive but I figured for a few pounds more I'd get the fanxiang. At least it is capable of 2000 MB/s if you connect it to the right type of port.

I've seen those drives at the usual placed, prices don't seem wow like what a bargain, a little bit cheaper but not 50%
As far as I know, it's the cheapest and fastest 1TB available but the savings may only be £15 over a top brand named drive with equal specifications.

I could do with another 2TB

Cheapest 1TB NVME I would get would be the Kingston NV3 for £44.

For 2TB I would probably go with the Lexar NM790.

Then get my own enclosure, there is a Hagibis 40gbps for £50.

I just put a Kingston NV3 into the Hagibis and can get this on the Mac Mini.

For pure speed the corsair EX400U seems to be
About the fastest rated external i have seen so far
4,000 MBs and 3600 MBs
Though the downside is it's
Only rated for 250tbw

@Raymond Lin did you have to
Order that hagibis from China to get that for £50?

Yes, but it doesn't take long, a week or so. I've had stuff delivered yesterday that I ordered last Thursday night.

Thanks
Been eyeing up a lexar nm790nm in mm
But so many external enclosures to choose from
It's hard to know which actually do deliver the promised speed
Those results are pretty good

I also have a OWC 1M2 Enclosure with a Samsung 990 Pro and the speed is barely any different. 0.3%?

The OWC cost more than double.

Qwiizlab Fanless 40Gbp look to be the same enclosure as the Hagibis with a less fancy cable for £45. Looks exactly the same otherwise. That cable is on sale on its own for £8.

When you tried it, was it the front or rear ports?

Only the REAR are thunderbolt, the front are regular 10gbps ports.
