Bought a GTX 1070 Ti a week ago, which is continually being knocked back on colllection date...

I was able to pick up the GTX 1070 Ti on Sunday, 9 days after I went in store to buy it but before Christmas at least. Definitely a nice upgrade for 3440x1440 over the GTX 970, I'm pleased. Hopefully that's that scratch itched without buyer's remorse in the coming months.

So what was the point of this thread if you ignored every single bit of advice given to you?

I didn't ignore any advice, I considered it and gave my reasons for not going with the other suggestions presented. As I got the card less than 72 hours after making this thread, the clock ran out for further input.

I hear the mini version of GTX 1xxx cards are hot, noisy, lose their value quickly, and perform / OC much worse that their 'full size' counterparts. I also heard on this very forum that the MSI armor series is hot and noisy, and has ropey build quality. I'm therefore not tempted.

Where have you heard this? I have scoured the net searching for something to back this up, but it only seems to be a rare occasion, replaced under warranty with one that's fine?

Can't remember where I originally heard it, but it came up again on another thread I made about graphics cards under 290 mm in length here, and someone backed it up.

I'm about to head out, but maybe googling mITX cards will bring something up.

Ok, I have read that and it is just someone saying "On the money" without offering any sources or anything to back it up. Also from research the mini cards, especially Zotac, would depend on the cooler used as some of the mini Zotacs come with basic blowers, others come with dual fans. After looking into the mITX issues, it appears to boil down to the small computers they are in and bad airflow, rather than the card itself.

No problem, thank you for taking the time to answer, hope your enjoy the rest of your boxing day. :)

Great card. I purchased mine from said retailer (same model, same price so narrows it down haha).

Really like the silent fans. I didn't even know it had that feature until I noticed the fans werent spinning the other night. I had to do a triple take :D

P.S. you did well not going for the Vega 56. Just today I was starting to get 'that' itch and started contemplating selling it and going for Vega 64, but going on the 3 or 4 benchmark videos I watched, it would have been a sidegrade at best, for more noise, more heat and more power.

Aye, certainly can't complain about this card - just as quiet/silent as my Asus GTX 970 but up to 150% more FPS in some games (as shown in my scores on the Forza benchmark thread here) even with my CPU.

I took mine for a fairly quick memory overclock up to +500 MHz with no problems, though only got about 3% more in 3DMark graphics tests, so put it back to stock speed pending a CPU upgrade. A potential memory bandwidth bottleneck was one of my concerns regarding the 1070 Ti compared with the 1080/Vegas, but I don't think that'll be much of an issue :D

I've never ever considered overclocking GPUs... Maybe I should look into it.

Although I've got a Ryzen 5 2600 and that's still stock... Hmmm

Where's this Forza bench thread btw? Got a link? Interested to see how my system compares

Forza bench thread below. A demo version of the game is available for anyone who doesn't have the full game.

I found overclocking my GTX 970 gave pretty impressive gains (about a 14% increase in FPS). I forgot that my scores with the 970 on there were with that OC, so versus the 1070 Ti at stock on both cards it'd be even more than a 150% fps increase. My main benchmark is under the 3440x1440 section, though also did 1080p on both and 1440p on the 1070 Ti only.

I'm far more comfortable overclocking graphics cards - way simpler and less time consuming than CPU overclocking, and my FX 8350 won't budge beyond its stock boost frequency anyway (4.2 GHz) without instantly failing on some cores in Prime95 no matter all the fiddling I do with voltage/etc.
